If you're going to buy something onlineLast edited Wed Jun 25, 2014, 08:19 AM - Edit history (4)
-- especially at Amazon-- don't forget to click through the affiliate links at your favorite liberal sites. It will cost you nothing extra and you will be supporting liberal and progressive voices by giving them a commission of your purchase.
Some of them I could find are: truthdig.com thisweekinblackness.com davidpakman.com majority.fm tytnetwork.com thepoliticalcarnival.net bartcop.com (not sure if the site is still active) allthingsdemocrat.com thepeoplesvoice.org bradblog.com alan.com (Alan Colmes) Just look for the link to Amazon (or their "store" ![]() Another way to support liberal and progressive causes is to use a site called GoodSearch.com For every valid search you do, your chosen cause will get a donation. Each donation for each search is small - one penny - but they add up-- especially if a lot of people choose that cause. And every bit helps. You can do a search to find your cause. I've seen many NPR and PBS affiliates come up. The cause I've chosen was WBAI Radio NYC (wbai.org) - They provide many great programs one of which is Economic Update with Dr. Richard D. Wolff. Of course, this is not for everybody but I will update and bump this thread from time to time to help remind people who are interested. Not enough of you liberal and progressive websites have Amazon affiliate links so get 'em up there! I will be looking for more to add to this list! Thank you very much!

1. I chose my local Humane Society. I buy *a lot of stuff* (but mainly books) there, and I have been
sending the money to the animal shelter all along.

any good sites with Amazon affiliate links that you think others at DU would also want to support, feel free to add them to the thread. I will update the OP occasionally.

2. This is a great idea and so easy to do....
Once you pick your cause and sign up (easy peasy) when ever you shop at Amazon it will remind you to click on it. Done! You always have the choice and it is super simple.

No, not Amazon Smile. Just the unique Amazon affiliate links that are available on some liberal/progressive websites.
Although, Amazon smile would probably work just as well, if your cause is listed. I'm not sure most liberal/progressive media outlets would make it to the list of charity causes, which I suggested, in order to support the media outlet you want, to just go straight to their website and click through their Amazon affiliate link, if they have one. |

10. Good question
I would suspect they do so if you have qualms about that sort of thing (I do too, I use DDG and ixQuick) you might want to just stick to the affiliate links. Or just don't search for anything too personal like foot fungus.

8. Does DU not have an affiliate status anymore?
I set up my Amazon link as http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/democraticund-20 many years ago and I've never had any reason to change it. Does it no longer have any effect?

11. Wow
I never noticed you could do that. Before I posted this thread, I checked DU for any Amazon affiliate links and didn't see any so I concluded they didn't participate. Now I'm not so sure.
Looking in my account for it but I don't see it. If they still are an Amazon affiliate I will add DU to the list. !Thanks! |

16. It was a long time ago -- maybe 2005?
There was a DU message asking people to use it for their Amazon purchases.
I've wondered for years if it was still operative -- but since it just goes through to Amazon, and nothing ever pops up to say, "Hey, that affiliate link doesn't do anything anymore," I had no way of telling. |

I have my own old amazon affiliate account. I don't see why it wouldn't still work but I'm going to ask skinner just to confirm before I add their link.
Thanks again. |

18. I find the hardest part
is just remembering to click through the Amazon affiliate links when I go to purchase something. So this thread is as much a reminder for myself as everybody else.
Then I thought imagine if these reminders, with all the relevant information, were periodically posted on high traffic liberal/progressive sites. I encourage as many people to copy & spread this as possible. The internet gives us such an opportunity to leverage our numbers and put them to good use to advance the message. |

24. ALSO...
[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]You can donate to any other cause of your choice by clicking through to on-line vendors via Goodshop,
...by eating out at places in your area registered with GoodDining, ...and every time you do a websearch through GoodSearch (as mentioned). It's just a little bit each time, but it adds up fast with enough conscientious participants. More ways to give painlessly: Greater Good and Click-to-Donate. Just make these a part of your daily routine. You don't have to have money to make a positive difference! ![]() PS: For those who may be tempted to think or use the perjorative term, "slactivist," I refer you to the statesman/philosopher, Edmund Burke, who said: “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” ![]() |

26. Great quote
I never thought of the possibility that someone could consider this as "slactivist."
It's free money for progressive/liberal causes for doing nothing more on your computer than what you already do, people. I would say it would be "slactivist" to not do it. There's no reason why people can't be both a serious activist and a couch activist. Plus it's the numbers that could make this a serious activity. If we all do it, just like voting, things start to add up in our favor. |

28. Thanks. It's one of my favorite quotes. :)
[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I've heard the term "slactivist" a couple of times from younger activists, the kind who loudly and regularly participate in meetings and demonstrations. For an older loner introvert like me, that's not a terrific option.
It's very similar to being called a "breeder" for having had two children (now grown) by someone much younger, who had chosen not to have any children herself. Both epithets convey an immature attitude of self-righteous superiority. I anticipate that persons using these terms will soften their scornful attitudes as they age, having experienced more of life's ups and downs for themselves. Every little bit helps and as you say, "If we all do it, just like voting, things start to add up in our favor." Meanwhile, I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing. ![]() |

I just discovered truthdig.com has an extensive and nicely integrated Amazon store. They can't make it easier to help. Just click on the word "shop" in their website menu.
