Ron Paul Iowa Team Welcomes Additional ‘Homeschoolers for Ron Paul’ Members

http://www.thestatecolumn.com/iowa/ron-paul-iowa-team-welcomes-additional-homeschoolers-for-ron-paul-members/

The State Column | Staff | Tuesday, December 20, 2011

<snip>Maria Maher of Ankeny is a mother of nine children ages four to 26 years of age. After the passing of her husband, she goes the extra mile to continue her 18-year tradition of homeschooling her children but sees it as welcome effort.

“The government is constantly stripping parents of basic rights, assuming these rights as their own. I treasure my freedom to do what is right and my liberty to teach my children virtue. I don’t want some governmental agency telling me or my children what is right and wrong, as this has always been up to the parents,” said Ms. Maher. snip

Proud mother of two and grandmother of eight Wanda Burdick has been in the homeschool movement since 1984. The Burdick family has operated Teenworks, a tutoring assistance service that for about three decades has helped homeschool students learn from a Christian worldview. It was featured in the Globe Gazette here and here.

“Having been involved with homeschooling since 1984, we appreciate the freedom to choose to homeschool. Ron Paul supports that freedom and many other freedoms that we enjoy. Dr. Paul believes that the federal government does not have the authority to intercede with children, acting against the wishes of parents when it comes to medical care, education, and other aspects of raising children,” said Mrs. Burdick of Wesley.

So homeschoolers and private schools would be all that was left in Ron Paul's America.

4. To be clear Ron Paul doesn't want to abolish public schools

He wants to abolish the Federal department of education. There would still be public education but it would be funded and regulated on the state level.

He wants everything to be private. Wanted the churches to take care of any poor and their medical needs. Ain't that what he said?

6. I only know what I've read so he may have said those things. Here's what he said in 2008:

Sorry I don't know how to use quotes here:

On November 14, 2008 Ron Paul said in a New York Times interview:

“First, the Constitution does not authorize the Department of Education, and the founders never envisioned the federal government dictating those education policies.

Second, it is a huge bureaucracy that squanders our money. We send billions of dollars to Washington and get back less than we sent. The money would be much better off left in states and local communities rather than being squandered in Washington.

Finally, I think that the smallest level of government possible best performs education. Teachers, parents, and local community leaders should be making decisions about exactly how our children should be taught, not Washington bureaucrats.

The Department of Education has given us No Child Left Behind, massive unfunded mandates, indoctrination, and in some cases, forced medication of our children with psychotropic drugs. We should get rid of all of that and get those choices back in the hands of the people.”

7. Ron Paul signed the following proclamation,

"I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education."

His name is right there under "policy leaders."

It doesn't say federal government, it says government period. Ron Paul is hooked up with the DeVoes, that is who runs that group and they want no public education.

They are all involved in Citizens United, Ron Paul too.

9. You are correct the proclamation does not state "federal government" in its wording
Thu Dec 22, 2011, 01:44 AM

So are you inferring that if Ron Paul were elected that not only would he end federal funding and regulation of schools but he'd pass a law telling the states they couldn't run schools either?

To be clear I do not support Ron Paul's goal to end the DOE. Nor am I a fan of private schools receiving federal money. I would like to see the DOE made more transparent and programs like "No child left behind " put to an end.

But I like to be factually correct if I'm going to discuss an issue and I don't think Ron Paul would end government involvement in education on the state and local level. This would be completely inconsistent with his pro states rights platform.

I know there is a huge list of things where Ron Paul is on the wrong side of an issue. As for the Citizen's United involvement it is again something I would extremely oppose. It is a big issue along with Social Security, Medicare, the ending of the DOE, EPA and other regulatory agencies where I would also be in direct opposition to Paul's views. Do I think the EPA and SEC need to be cleansed of corruption? Hell yes! But definitely not eliminated.

My goal in stating that Ron Paul was for abolishing the DOE and not for ending public education isn't to show support for the view but to make sure a claim is true in relation to what a candidate says and does. False accusations do not make for a good discussion with persons who understand otherwise.

Still I like a Republican candidate that is anti war and is not lock step with the neo con war mongers. He's not perfect but he's my opponent not my candidate. I still have some respect for John McCain and other Republicans. Does that mean I will agree and vote for them? Of course not. But I can still like and respect a person even if I disagree with them politically.

No Child Left Behind would be a good thing. Do a little research on Betsy Devoes, Erik Prince of Blackwater's sister. They want privatized education period. I have done much research on Ron Paul and what he says and what he does are two different things.

How does a guy that won a special election, was in office for a few months and lost the next election become part of a unelected "shadow cabinet?" Connections, that is how. There is much more under the surface for those who bother to look beyond Ron Paul's words.

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=bgFaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ukoNAAAAIBAJ&pg=6913,1208676&dq=shadow+government+ron+paul&hl=en

If you go back to 1973, you'll see that Meldrim Thomson, NH's governor and member of the "shadow cabinet" was part of the group pushing school vouchers. Vouchers, designed to take funds from the public schools. Vouchers were pushed by Milton Friedman. These people have been trying to undermine public education for many years.

I am very familiar with Erik Prince and Blackwater and don't take lightly anything connected to the merchant of murder.

Thank you for the information on Betsy and her organization.

I spelled her name wrong...it is DeVos. Here is a little more, Ron Paul is connected to these people, look at what they were pushing in education in the 80s including achievement tests.....NCLB.

You'll find a lot of inconsistencies in the people that Ron Paul associates with and what he says. He also has a guy named Doug Bandow on his campaign. Bandow, wrote op-eds to influence congress for Jack Abramoff's causes for cash from Abramoff.

http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/dec2005/nf20051216_1037_db016.htm

I don't understand why Media Matters doesn't connect the dots.

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201112080003

Bandow is on Ron Paul's campaign:
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?108392-Ron-Paul-Campaign-Announces-Addition-of-New-Policy-Advisors

I have found many of these types of things on Ron Paul including conflicting information about the Fed, the Contra Scandal, and his monetary policy buddy Lewis Lehrman that was an investor in George Bush's Arbusto Oil.....why the media doesn't get after him and put the pieces together I have no idea.
