I appreciate you and will see you when you return from exile.
Also, I know you didn't post the score maliciously and I understand why you did it. I also understand that the more we participate and the more things change, the more likely it is that we'll mess up now and then. You are a perpetual contribution machine to these forums and I, for one, forgive you when you make a mistake or misstep or whatever. I truly appreciate your contribution to this forum.
Thanks again, nadin. I will miss you while you're gone. I hope you come back.

Nadin and I used to have some interesting conversations in the olden days, and I used to enjoy her contributions. This year not so much (Having "What say you?" thrown at me was a bit of a jolt, but no matter)-- but she's still an old-timer and a valued contributor.
If you're reading any of this, Nadine, no hard feelings -- just take a break, and we'll see you when we see you.

(7,499 posts)What total BS. If folks didn't want to hear about the score, they should avoid TV, radio, internet, grocery stores, liquor stores, workplaces, bars, restaurants and anywhere and everywhere else the topic would likely come up. It was a huge news story! This is really above and beyond the bounds of reason and common sense. DU sometimes needs to grow the hell up.

Nadin did a fine job of keeping her cool, whilst she was being called an "attention-whore", accused of asshattery, and generally piled-on by personal attacks galore, but after yet another hide, she was "flagged for review" automatically, I guess, late yesterday afternoon. The hiding of her thread this morning, after she finally was able to return, is what put her over the top, Transparency Page revealed, suspended for over a month.
I have no idea why someone would jump with such speed to punish an innocent thread about a live international sporting event; she was hidden within mere minutes after announcing that the USA would advance, simultaneously with the nationwide celebration of that fact.
Mind-boggling.
Outrageous.

Simply put, if you support candidate "Y" via a bumper sticker on your car, and you drive like an asshole (refusing to yield right of way, cutting off someone to get a parking space, running yellow lights, etc., ) you are telling the world that candidate "Y" appeals to assholes - this does NOT win votes.

Her fifth hide was today after her two hide suspension was lifted for her meta thread in GD. I think the hosts should have locked that thread and then it wouldn't have gone to a jury.

It is not a healthy community when so few are jurists. Such situations are prime for abuse. And there is evidence of abuse.

How petty can you get. Over a silly World Cup game score. That's pretty juvenile.

(45,319 posts)so I'd have no idea that if I mentioned the score of a completed game, published around the world I'd be spoiling something for someone in some time zone. (6,956 posts)Here's my comments from another post of mine.
And, as long as I'm blathering, one of the most hurtful things I experienced on DU was when I posted a link to a drudge or a newsmax type item to discuss oppo research. And I was shut down 5 to 1 by a DU jury. Tried and convicted by a jury of my peers for being a right wing troll. My feelings were really hurt by that one, as it happened less than a year ago, after I'd been here perhaps nine years. Like I spent nine years and 4,500 posts to go deep undercover so I could slip in one subversive piece of righty propaganda.
The vigilante politically correct aroma around DU is percolating and festering. In the chilling words of Ari Fleischer during the Iraq Invasion Propaganda campaign,
"The presidential press secretary, Ari Fleischer, condemned Bill Maher's irreverent comic response to 9/11 by reminding "all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do." (cut and pasted form a Christopher Hitchens slate.com piece for some context)
It's ironic that an exercise of free speech that was well intentioned and in the spirit of what DU is supposed to be all about, gets so vilified. I did learn from my Drag Racing boards that it's prudent to wait a day before discussing the outcome of a race. Lots of my buds tape it and watch it later.
DU cured nadinbrzezinski's dandruff by decapitation, to paraphrase Frank Zappa. Additionally, I get really freaked out by anything that has an aroma of bullying. And ganging up on people. I'm a stickler for fairness and I bridle at the smallest of injustices.
