What do you have and how do you like it?
Solar panels are going up on my roof next Monday and I am so excited. It has gotten me thinking of an electric car. The idea of driving around on a tank full of Arizona sunshine is practically giving me a Boehner!
Mods, if this is the wrong place for this, please feel free to move it.

(156,620 posts)I drive a Toyota Camry Hybrid, and my husband alternates between a Prius and a Nissan Leaf.
We like them a lot. The hybrids get good mileage, and the Leaf allows my husband to drive solo on the freeway, which he does several times a week.

(10,849 posts)I have a paid-for VW diesel, and no $ for a new car. But I do have solar electricity.

Great mileage, but getting to be too small for the whole family now that my boys are reaching teenage years.
Still great for doing errands solo or with one or two kids along!

(10,337 posts)It is one of the best cars we've ever owned.
This being Tucson, I have the requsite Ford F150 for the big stuff but 11 mpg to go to the grocery store is just silly.

(19,704 posts)But I think they still make an automatic version of it.
We can get up to 50 mpg if we're not driving around town, though, we average about 45 or so.
I suspect we're going to have to replace the battery eventually, it seems to be losing a bit of it's oomph. (That's a technical term, by the way! LOL.)

(9,933 posts)Love it. Want to get the plug in version next. Wish we has solar panels but we rent. Did invest in solar though....if we ever get a place of our own we'd want panels too. It must be so awesome! In Arizona you'll save so much.

(10,337 posts)A regular electric bill of over $400.00. It will soon be $119.00 per month with Tucson Electric paying ME for what we produce but don't use.

(10,337 posts)No way am I living in Tucson without A/C. With the solar panels going in, running thr A/C will no longer be an issue.

(113,973 posts)at times, though the Prius has done pretty darned well on snow. But I do love getting more than 50 mpg routinely and no worse than 42 in town with the AC blasting on high.

(18,402 posts)Love it, like the others. But it's hard to believe it's 8 years old! We bought it in January 2006. It still feels "new" to me. And I hope we'll drive it for another 6 years or so.

(28,876 posts)Lifetime gas mileage 79.1 as of today. We love it. Can get to work on pure electric. Have filled up the gas tank twice this year, I think. Assembled just 20 min from where we live, so supporting an American business and our local economy.

(26,182 posts)want to buy Tesla but waiting until price becomes reasonable or Prius gives up ghost.
Several coworkers have Tesla combined with solar panels. No bills. Large up front costs...

(8,464 posts)Swinging a Tesla though is a dream; a pretty high end dream. My house has 400amp service just in case though.

that gives me unlimited access to this:

outside of that, I have zipcar if I need to take a car on a long trip or for whatever other reason.

(10,337 posts)Now I live in Tucson. Everything is 40 miles away. A rail card will get you a daylong trip to Trader Joe's

(14,374 posts)It drives smoother than anything I have ever owned. Plus, I am averaging 7 MPG more than the specs stated. I am very satisfied with it.
I hope you enjoy your purchase immensely.
