Guess what they are calling today, down here in Alabama?????

Freedom Fest.

Our lil town held a Freedom Fest, completel with a beauty pageant.
Contestants ranged from infants ( I kid you not) on up to 18 year olds.
A 2 year old won "Lil Miss Firecracker" first place, in "infant to 4 year old " age group.
a 9 month baby girl got a prize for "most photogenic".

"Let FREEDOM ring" signs all over the place, including the paperbag with my prescriptions from the local pharmacy.

Not a mention of "4th of July".
Newspaper ads for the grocery stores used the word "Holiday". with lots of red white and blue designs.

I am up to here with "Freedom"....

Bill O'Reilly -- although a notorious Republican chickenhawk and Xmas Warrior Whimp -- is likely on the front lines in this Republican 'Holiday' Wankoff & Disrespect Fest to the US of A.

You know, in 2002 when we illegally invaded Iraq, my then gf and I went to a festival up river from here in Northeastern Iowa. We spooted a stand that had "Freedom Fries" and decided that we were hungry and they looked ok to eat. Cheesy fries and all that. Anyway, I went up to the stand and asked for an order of FRENCH fries to which the woman replied, "I'm sorry sir, we don't have French Fries, just Freedom Fries." I asked what the difference was and the woman said, "We just don't like French fries." I said, "Well we do so we'll go somewhere else. Thanks." The woman didn't quite know what to say. I imagine she had something to say under her breath but we just kept walking and enjoyed a night of fine music. And we ended up getting French fries from another vendor.

Is Armistice Day called "11th of November"?
Is Christmas called "25th of December"?

Today, he says, is "Independence Day"

Is there something unAmerican about a "freedom fest" in your eyes?

The founding fathers were very big into liberty. Every coin we make has the word "liberty" stamped on the front. Because of a law from 1792 establishing the US Mint http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coinage_Act_of_1792

And thrown around a LOT.
I was commenting on how my red state has changed the language of Independence Day to a political buzzword.
