One fast-food CEO has a message for the workers toiling away in his industry: The minimum wage hike youve been clamoring for will only hurt you.
The consequences of raising the minimum wage include more youth unemployment, higher prices and increased automation, says Andy Puzder, the head of CKE restaurants, the parent company of Hardees and Carls Jr.
Government needs to get out of the way, Puzder told Yahoo! Finance in an interview Monday. If government gets out of the way, businesses will create jobs and wages will go up.
Puzder made $4.4 million in 2012, according to Forbes. That's about 291 times what a minimum wage worker makes in a year, if they're earning the federal minimum and working full-time. The average fast food CEO made 721 times what minimum wage workers took in in 2013, according to a recent report from the Economic Policy Institute.

(14,449 posts)Most of it is in stock so he probably takes home 1 million a year. That is still a nice chunk. Not Brad Pitt 20 million a movie pay, but pretty well. Why don't we look at movie stars. Certainly they are making over 500 times what the lowest wage earner makes. Why do they get a pass? How much does Brad pay his assistant? Would be interesting to find out.

(14,910 posts)There are at least 39 charitable organizations that he has donated personally to annually.
Several of those include: Not on Our Watch, American Foundation for Equal Rights, Doctors Without Borders, and Human Rights Watch.
I'll give that a pass.
The same cannot be said for a majority of these corporatist pigs.

(14,449 posts)We don't have any idea what this other guy gives. And Brad was just an example. There are tons of other Actors that make a lot of money that are not as generous but yet get a pass.

The same cannot be said about many CEO's in a similar charitable situation when compared to their peers.
By the way; here are your 'charitable' donations for Andrew Puzder:

(48,955 posts)You got your tax cuts.
Your company got it's tax cuts.
You and your company got some relaxed regulations.
Economy went bust - has been very slow to recover.
Your exorbitant pay blocks you from understanding your workers' plight - stagnant salary while the annual costs of living continue to accrue.

Sounds classist to me.
