Alternet: "Most Republicans think Jesus would denounce Universal Healthcare." How is it possible

that so many could have become brain-washed to this extent, or are these masses
mainly made up of those with lower intelligence?

2. It's because ...

they just assume that this "Jesus" character was/is exactly like them and sees the world exactly as they do, in their narrow, foggy, frightened minds.

10. Or maybe those who have grown up in fear-based Christian sects would want to believe, because

they fear they would be facing hell-fire and damnation, if they didn't. Belief becomes automatic,
if it comes from an authoritative religious figure.

4. The defining characteristic of the modern Republican is LAZINESS

If they weren't bone lazy, they might have read the New Testament for themselves. They might not be total suckers for any pompadoured Koch front man who tries to tell them it is the opposite of what they read for themselves.

It will never happen. Like their patron saint Reagan, they're too bone lazy to read anything beyond a headline.

6. What you say makes sense. Those who don't read for themselves won't acquire much general knowledge

either. They need someone to tell them things -- this is exactly where the Koch people come in.

Christians In Name Only.

It's been my experience that many of the people who call themselves "Conservative Christians" have never actually sat down and read the New Testament, or did so so many years ago that they no longer remember it.

There was a time in this country when the Christian churches fed the poor, housed the homeless, helped to train the unskilled so they could get jobs, and understood that the story of Jesus favored the poor, meek and peaceful. Today's Republicans seem to be fans of "War Jesus". Only problem is, War Jesus doesn't actually exist in the Bible anywhere...unless you're a banker (or a fig tree, he really hated fig trees).

Today's conservatism is about greed and hatred. There's nothing Christian about it.

for their own political purposes, and that religion was only a game for them to play with and
profit from.
