What you casually toss aside doesn't routinely happen.

A passenger jet was shot down by a middle. Yes it's happened but it didn't happy yesterday day or the day before or the day before.

Ditto with the tens of thousands ground force invasion of Gaza.

And no people on DU don't have their hair on fire, save for the reactionary reactionaries.

But some out there have just that and it's just a little apathetic to toss it aside and say 'chill out y'all' on a blog.

they stopped reporting on Ukraine after a while. but if they had kept on it we would know more about this situation and how rebels had been shooting down planes .

for those who get foreign news or even more importantly read the news regularly much of these things aren't a surprise .

ISIS was no always in iraq, the gaza assault has escalated, and we do have more kids requiring asylum than normal, and planes getting shot down are always problematic

i am not saying third world war is on its way, but its not great going in the middle east, we need an immigration plan at home and the ukraine/russia situation is not great

I was being alarmist about all this stuff and he snorted (and this is an old Commie activist, hardly uninvolved or senile) and said "It's been like this since time began. Those who always fought are fighting and the capitalists are trying to make a buck. Calm the fuck down and live."

I believe I will.

is morally blind. Furthermore, Iraq and Afghanistan are both unholy messes. So is Ukraine.

One needn't be shocked by what's going on in the world at this particular moment in time, but your callous indifference to it is disturbing- and that's putting it kindly. your quip about the world cup in this context is ugly.

I'm not shocked either- by your op. You view all events through the prism of devotion to the President. No you didn't mention him, but in the context of your posting history, it fits..

- Israel and the Palestinians fight all the time.
But Israel doesn't send ground troops into Gaza all the time.

- Iraq has been in chaos since the 2003 Bush invasion.
But there are degrees of chaos and the taking of territory by ISIS or whatever they call themselves is a new, disturbing turn of events.

- There have always been immigrants crossing the US border for a better life.
But there haven't always been thousands of unaccompanied minors making there way from Central America in such a short time span.

- Planes have been shot down in the past
You apparently think that passenger jets getting shot down is an everyday occurance. Its happened fewer than 20 times in 60 years and this is only the fourth time that more than 100 people died in such an incident.

Maybe instead of our turning off the TV, you should turn it on. Or read a newspaper. Or keep track of something other than the World Cup.

Most days there is little to no news to report. A plane being shot down and Israel sending troops into Gaza is big news. Today is a good day to turn the TV on. Why are you trying to spin this as no big deal? It's not Obama's fault. Save your spin, Baghdad Bob.
