Revised Tea Party Gospel: "Suffer the little children come unto me. Unless they're undocumented kids from Central America."

Much easier to be a Christian when the little children aren't in your back yard, isn't it?

Best-selling author Stephen King has called out Tea Party types and Christians on Twitter, suggesting they’re hypocrites on immigration. Some of them weren’t too happy.

King doesn’t tweet much (only 323 so far) but he has a lot of followers (477,000), and at the moment he’s in a tweet-fight with his Tea Party foes over the current crisis over thousands of Central American children arriving unaccompanied at the border.

Although King’s contempt for Tea Party politics is not new, his comments on the (latest) border crisis brought out a flurry of angry and/or profane tweets from people who called him hypocritical or clueless or both.

Savannah the Bossy @thesavvy

.@StephenKing on the issue of illegal immigration, you're in the minority. You understand this, right?

Conservative pundits, such as Glenn Beck, also bashed him in regular media.

“This is a guy who said that I was Satan’s mentally challenged younger brother,” Beck said on his radio show today. “Of course he’s not going to recognize our effort. … He can’t get past his hate.”

Beck has nearly 900,000 followers on Twitter and has sent out nearly 7,000 tweets.

was to find a doctor for my family. Within a week of my first visit, the doctor's receptionist showed up at my door with her minister's wife. The first thing they asked was if I was a Christian. I said "uhh...yes, but I don't think in the way you mean it." They invited me to join their church and "find Jesus," and in the process managed to assure me that they had no"Negro" members. I very politely declined (this WAS little more than a decade after some strong civil rights battles), but was hard-pressed not to show how taken aback I was, as they were very "sweet" ladies. In retrospect, I was sorry that I hadn't claimed I was Jewish, just to see their reaction. I'm not, but I have a last name shared by many Jewish people.

In my case, the genetics are there, not the practice of any religious tradition. Many of US are of mixed race/religion. imho, it is my moral obligation to defend minorities because I am one of the many.

A brief return to the bible belt in Tennessee convinced me, when you live in the evangelical south there are worse things than being called "a Jew". Since most of those from my birth area believe the state of israel will bring the rapture, it was great fun telling a fib at the door to an uninvited guest.

Here's my idea for a reality-tv version of "Under The Dome".

1. Get a large number of Tea Party identifying people together.
2. Put them all in an environment like being under that dome.
3. Introduce some catastrophic event of sorts.
4. Capture it all on video.
5. ???
6. Profit!

As entertaining as Under The Dome is, I'd hazard a guess my reality Tv version might be just as entertaining. And horrifying.

I love the your BaggerDome concept (I loved SK's book too). But baggers are big talkers about self sufficiency, Ayn Rand, free markets, and "I built that". So dome the bastards inside their ideal Galt's Gulch terrarium, and they can all thrive on their own self sufficiency and "Real America" values. This is the juncture at which they would start to introduce catastrophe after catastrophe all on their own.

Then just surround the dome with reality television crews and sociologists and watch 'em go.

I honestly hate that line of reasoning worse than most because it just reeks of middle school behavior. Does Savannah the Bossy honestly think Stephen King gives a damn whether his thinking is with the minority on anything whatsoever. His brain has made Stephen King a fortune. I doubt he worries much about whether his thinking is in line with that of others. Actually, it's beyond my comprehension that anyone over a certain age would would be swayed by whatever is the majority opinion on anything.

I too love Mr. King. He and his wife give money to many worthy causes in the local Bangor community and want no recognition. His name isn't on anything. He owns 3 local radio stations (Zone Radio) because he thinks that local radio is important. One is a liberal talk station with a live morning program devoted to politics and local issues. He is an asset to the community.
