I’ve always said that I like my ethnic cleansers like my men: honest, direct, and with a plan. Sadly, like good men, honest and open ethnic cleansers are few and far between. As the Israeli government, and those who blindly defend it, claim that the attacks in Gaza are for self-defense, and self-defense alone, one man has the courage to admit that the real goal is to rid the area of Palestinians and populate it with Jews. And that man is Moshe Feiglin, Deputy speaker and member of Knesset (Israel’s parliament).

But before I get to Feiglin, let me explain what I mean by ethnic cleansing. This is obviously the subject of much academic and political debate, but for this post, I will defer to one of the definitions offered by Andrew Bell-Fialkoff in his Foreign Affairs ”A Brief History of Ethnic Cleansing” article:

the expulsion of an “undesirable” population from a given territory due to religious or ethnic discrimination, political, strategic or ideological considerations, or a combination of these.

Ok. Back to the fun stuff. The headline is “My Outline for a Solution in Gaza.” And the subheadline reads “Clear and concise, the steps towards achieving quiet in Gaza.” I was immediately impressed by his candor in aspiring towards quiet, not peace. Peace, which requires an end to fighting, is such a cliche. But quiet, which can be achieved through muzzling, silencing, or killing, is so much better. Think about how much better it sounds. “We will have quiet, we will because we must…” “All we are saying, is give quiet a chance…” “What’s so funny about quiet, love and understanding?” ”No justice, no quiet!”

Feiglin doesn’t mince his words. In fact, he puts his demands in bold, literally and metaphorically. And his seven lofty quiet-achieving goals are:

1.Ultimatum
2.Attack
3.Siege
4.Defense (because why not?)
5.Conquer
6.Elimination
7.Sovereignty

I particularly like points 5-7. Let’s take a look, shall we?

1. Bingo......

I abhor that Hamas' charter essentially calls for the death and annihilation of Jews. The fact they are part of the Palestinian governing authority does serious damage to the prospects for peace.

But this article lays bare the fact there are strong forces at work in Israel for the annihilation of Palestinians.

So those that blindly defend Israel without any consideration their actions are driven, at least in part, by hatred and ill intent, I suggest they become informed and engaged.

I do not defend the kidnapping and murder of the 3 Israelis. I do not defend the revenge "burned alive" killing of a Palestinian boy.

I can place myself in the shoes of the Palestinians who were subject to expulsion from their lands and livelihoods under the U.N. mandate that established Israel. I appreciate there had been Zionists in the region for decades fighting for a Jewish homeland and the horrors of the holocaust finally made this happen.

I support the right of the Israelis to defend themselves and to have a homeland. I also support the right of the Palestinians to defend themselves and to have homeland. The problem is, the Jews have a homeland but the Palestinians don't.

We must begin to recognize the bloodshed will never stop until the extremists on both sides are curbed and there is genuine movement toward a two-state solution. If Israel and Egypt can achieve and maintain peace for all these decades, I believe Israel and the Palestinians can as well. I am an eternal optimist.

2. Israel needs lebensraum.

Sovereignty – Gaza is part of our Land and we will remain there forever. Liberation of parts of our land forever is the only thing that justifies endangering our soldiers in battle to capture land. Subsequent to the elimination of terror from Gaza, it will become part of sovereign Israel and will be populated by Jews. This will also serve to ease the housing crisis in Israel. The coastal train line will be extended, as soon as possible, to reach the entire length of Gaza.

Pretty straightforward nationalism, tribalism, expansionism, manifest destiny and chauvinism, plus a realistic forever-based timeline. Open theocratic call for Jewish repopulation of Gaza, which belongs to Jews because… The Torah. Regretful willingness to let others die while you sit at home creating genocidal to-do lists.

And, this may be the only ethnic cleansing plan which also includes train service and real estate improvements. (Location, Location, Location!)

5. A bit more detail on Feiglin's modest plan for peace in Gaza--

Ultimatum – One warning from the Prime Minister of Israel to the enemy population, in which he announces that Israel is about to attack military targets in their area and urges those who are not involved and do not wish to be harmed to leave immediately. Sinai is not far from Gaza and they can leave. This will be the limit of Israel’s humanitarian efforts. Hamas may unconditionally surrender and prevent the attack.

2.Attack – Attack of the entire ‘target bank’ throughout the Gaza Strip with the IDF’s maximum force (and not a tiny fraction of it) with all the conventional means at its disposal. All the military and infrastructural targets will be attacked with no consideration for ‘human shields’ or ‘environmental damage’. It is enough that we are hitting exact targets and that we gave them advance warning.

3.Siege – Parallel to the above, a total siege on Gaza. Nothing will enter the Strip. Israel, however, will allow exit from Gaza. (Civilians may go to Sinai, fighters may surrender to IDF forces).

4.Defense – Any place from which Israel or Israel’s forces were attacked will be immediately attacked with full force and no consideration for ‘human shields’ or ‘environmental damage’.

5.Conquer – After the IDF will complete the softening of the targets with its aerial and long distance fire-power, it will send in infantry to conquer the entire Gaza Strip, using all the means necessary to minimize any harm to our soldiers, with no other considerations.

Just kinda thinking out loud here.... just an observation....

First we have the Palestinians. Said to be hated by all of their Arab neighbors and that the Arabs don't want them around. That's just what i have read, have no personal knowledge of that.

Then we have the Jewish people. Again no personal knowledge of them, just what i have read: Everywhere they go they are persecuted.

So what we have here on the lands of which these two peoples reside, is a classic case of people persecuting and hating each other. Gathered together in one place. To duke it out? To eliminate each other? Biblical stuff? Or just Karma writ large?

Whatever it is, it is sad to witness. And all i can say is i am lucky to live in such a peaceful land that the US presently is.

It chilled me that people think this way, after the opinion piece by Oden.

"One way tickets out of Palestine as refugees with UN defined refugee status could help. Right now, not a single Arab country wants them because they are nothing but trouble. There is enough desert in Mexico to accommodate them even.

i think at most he got about 25 percent just within likud. his position is because netanyahu appointed him. he may have done so to prevent him from taking votes from him .

What he's describing is ethnic cleansing and it's revolting. Have you got links to where any right-wingers have said that about African Americans? And if they had, that doesn't minimise what Feiglin has said, especially in the current situation over there...

And Moshe Feiglin is in a position of power in Israel, btw. He's Deputy Speaker and the leader of a faction of Likud. Whenever he runs for the Likud leadership he receives around 23% of the vote...
