July 29th 2014 - When is enough enough in CrazyLand USA?
So I happened to run on CNN for a few minutes yesterday. I rarely inflict this on myself, but due to this week's high outoor temperatures, and mild heatstroke, I thought a little TV couldn't hurt.
Well, in less than one hour I found out that a young African American High Schooler was probably killed inside his HS's gym. His body was found inside a rolled up gym mat, with the school's explanation being that the teenager had crawled inside the gym mat in order to find his lost shoe, and then he suffocated... WTF?
His family is now suing the school district, for their not coming forth with further evidence. Evidently this young man was also in serious and on going conflict with another HS'er, who happens to be white. Although the school did release some video footage, a twelve second gap in the video recording appears to take place.
Then CNN goes to commercial. When they come back, I find out that recently a mother was arrested for the crime of letting her seven year old walk to a local park. By himself.
CNN talking heads basically then scold the TV viewers for their free thought processes. "Just because back in the day you let your kids walk to the local park, doesn't meant hat a parent should do this in this day and age."
They show that the park was a full half mile from the residence. They also show the numerous child predators who live in the area. Once they pull the screen down to the actual area where the kid was walking around, there were only three predators in that area. From what I know of child predators, it is basically impossible to keep your kid safe from any of them, if they really are predators. (I lived in same area of the world where Polly Klass was taken by a pedophile, from her own bedroom, while in the company of an entire group of kids celebrating her birthday, with the parent at home at the time of the abduction.)
I think what threw me into a loop was the stark contrast. On one hand, you are able to be arrested. For the crime of letting your kid being a kid. On the other hand, your child can die - outright die - with his body being found in a gym mat in the HS gym and school officials are given a pass, if the possible perpetrator is white.
