General Discussion

This is all corporate marketing 101. No doubt the very real fear that guns are dangerousbacked by statistical evidence showing that having one in your house raises your chances of being murdered or assaulted by gun, being shot by accident, and committing suicideis a huge barrier to selling more guns. So just like the ads in the 50s that tried to calm consumer fears of cancer by showing doctors smoking, theres a push to signal that guns are not dangerous. You should just have them laying around all the time. You should strap them to your body! Guns should just be so familiar you completely forget that they can blow your head off if you handle them incorrectly. Theyre so safe we should have kids firing them to pass on to the next grade! Theyre just like very expensive action figures and you should collect them all!

And this shows, yet again, how much the NRA is not really about rights and they have clearly abandoned the commitment to safety that used to be their primary goal. Instead they exist largely as a marketing organization/industry lobby that works mostly to promote the profits of the gun industry, in this case trying to convince people guns are so safe that blind people can use them. This video isnt really about the needs of blind people, but about convincing a mostly non-blind audience that guns are super duper safe, and therefore they should run out and buy some more guns.

(14,559 posts)While the woman is on the phone with 911. Husband kicks door in, grabs child and points a gun at the woman. Fade to black and gunfire.
The pro gun side respond with a Glock ad depicting a young woman alone at home. The bad guy knocks at the door, she checks the peep hole and goes back to watching TV. He knocks again, another check and she goes to the bedroom to get her gun. Bad guy knocks yet again and begins to wiggle the door knob giving her time to take a trained shooting stance away from the door. The door magically opens and bad guy sees gun and faints.
Which is more likely?
Gun people live in a fantasy world where they are always the victor and hero.

(2 posts)A solution that would heavily reduce the number of gun murders every year AND still comply with the 2nd amendment would be to ban metal bullets and only allow rubber bullets. Rubber bullets are used by the police in Europe when riots occur. These bullets act to knock people unconscious without killing them as they don't penetrate a person's skin.
