(12,723 posts)I prefer local food made fresh at restaurants owned by people in my community. They could have the finest food in the world at the lowest prices and I still would never eat there. The last chain place I ate at was 5 guys and I can find better burgers at half a dozen places in town.

(148,692 posts)hanko-panko to bread their fish. I cannot confirm that, since I only eat grilled fish there. Accusations of cornflakery are exaggerated, I believe.
Disclaimer: I have eaten at Red Lobster on two or three occasions, so I'm clearly biased in favor of that fine dining establishment.

(14,733 posts)It was post-BP, and there was no way I was eating seafood I couldn't verify the sourcing on, no matter what sort of breading was used...

(13,985 posts)If so, I assume youre familiar with the RL on East Colonial Dr. The most horrible RL I ever been to. The crab legs were dry and on pieces, meaning they were probably leftovers from previous costumers.
Stay away from that Red Lobster. I now go to Clermont or Disneyworld Downtown if I want seafood.

(37,468 posts)The way RL has been going, it may be extinct by the time I think of it again.

(5,957 posts)It easy and cheaper than getting a lobster in a restaurant. As for chains, Bonefish Grill and Legal Seafood get my vote.

(1,858 posts)aside from the crappy food ( I was outvoted by the group), few inebriated adults at the table next to us where shoving seafood into their young toddlers mouth who then puked all over the table. They wiped off his mouth and continued to feed him the same crap and talked about how puking before going to sleep can help prevent hangovers.

(39,400 posts)I'm okay with that, especially when they are paying!
It's not my first pick. There are too many awesome local restaurants waiting to be explored.
I learned this from my dad. He avoids chain restaurants, motels, and conventional modes of traveling.
For every horror I've experienced in his company, as a kid and as an adult, (century old straw mattresses with bugs, the "runs," the melodramatic exclamations of prostitutes in the night, what had to be one of the worst public toilets on the planet used by crawling puking drunks, hookers, and public masturbators...), there are dozens of gems yet undiscovered by more conservative travelers; places that make the Red Lobster look like a sad imitation of an authentic eating and drinking establishment.
