apparently is not worthy of comment.

I have been watching trends for the last six months or so. I have even posted stories that would test my theory.
It seems a child whose death is due to pit bulls, hot cars and especially gunz!!!! is horrible and cause for grief and lament.
Death by other means= shit happens.
To my mind, the violence or negligence is the disease. The method is a symptom and far less important; treating it will help but not cure the disease.
Oh and if anyone cares about a dead child here is an update

We see it here on many subjects.

(32,886 posts)Guns get the focus because they are not a necessary instrument for modern living outside of law enforcement and military and they make killing too easy and impersonal.
Knives are used every day by most people without injury. Even cars, with all the accidents they have, have a very low instance of accident and death per trip. And of course, cars play an important role in society.
Guns have no place in society and have no positive role to play.

I thought that under the revised SOP it might be of interest to a majority of DU members

(11,804 posts)If there was than that'd be odd that we aren't discussing the political ramifications of these deaths. But if there isn't, and I certainly haven't heard of one, than I don't know that this would elicit much comment.
Also this might well be better suited for another area of DU.

(22,695 posts)I am addressing violence. This is one of several shocking cases of children violently killing children this year.
What saddens me is only certain deaths ever get noticed.

(11,879 posts)If noticeable numbers of small children were dieing from, for instance, falling into cover-less manholes, we would see people calling for mandatory manhole covers. People get worked up about the deaths they feel could be easily prevented, even though they understand that not all deaths can be prevented.

(22,695 posts)I am carrying a knife today. I was on school property for a while.
I do not claim everyone needs a gun but will not say no one will ever need one. If violence is needed for self defense I won't second guess anyone's choice of weapon.
If a person unjustly uses any weapon (as in the MI case) they should face major punishment
Interesting side point. A small piece of a discussion we had some months back made it into the MN domestic violence law that passed this summer. I cannot claim any direct responsibility but it was very simlar to language I gave my rep on proposals to restrict firearm access to those under a restraining order.
I have hope still of someday having GC laws delineating rights and responsibility plus a reduction in overall violent crime, including gun crime.
