and even children. We don't even know the extent of their crimes because they destroyed the evidence of many of them, and a whole lot of other evidence which was viewed by members of Congress whose reactions at the time, was horror, including people like Lindsey Graham, has not yet been seen by the general public.
That evidence became the subject of a years long court battle where there were rulings that we the people had the right to see it, then under appeal, different rulings. Sy Hersch told us that even children had been tortured. Women raped, people murdered, as Lindsey Graham told Cheney when he tried to dismiss the evidence they were looking at.
It is shocking that someone like Chelsea Manning who reported torture, actually believing that her military oath meant something, is in jail, while the perpetrators are being excused as 'just patriots who did what they did out of fear due to 9/11.

(2,104 posts)Congress said the tape they saw, it was not so much the visuals, but the screaming from the kids being sexually abused. All...in our name.

(62,325 posts)almost in shock, airc, when he revealed that info, from some of his sources.
We learned that these crimes are on those videos which were fought over in the courts for so many years.
We also learned that women being raped or at least one woman, is on those tapes.
I feel heart broken, we waited so long, since we first learned about these crimes, to remove the criminals from office and election someone who would apply the rule of law. Only to be told 'no, we are moving forward' and now 'the torturers were just patriots who were scared' or something.

(20,453 posts)whistle blow, or stand by the constitutional oath, and you either flee the country or get tortured yourself. They can't tell me Bradley/Chelsea wasn't also undergoing torture in the extreme isolation in the brink for as long as she did wasn't that.

(58,459 posts)no prosecutions of the men that pulled us out of the Geneva Conventions, enabled, legalized and ordered torture; long held to be war crimes by the United States.
I don't see anything respectful about implicitly being labeled as "sanctimonious" for opposing torture and wanting the culprits brought to justice.
I don't see much respect coming from the CIA headed by Obama's choice of Brennan in regards to their attempts at stifling this information from coming to light and undermining the Senate investigation.

(36,988 posts)At a White House Press conference today, press members pressed President Obama for comment on the number of children who received ouches in U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan since he took office. After dodging the question as long as he could, the exasperated president finally broke down and admitted that hes made some oopsies in his war on terror.
Look, the President pleaded, We are doing everything we can to make sure were only hitting high level targets. But sometimes you forget there might be children at a wedding, and you make an oopsy. And when oopsies happen, sometimes children get ouchies. But were fighting a war on terror. And when you fight a war on terror, oopsies happen.
White house press secretary Josh Earnest assured the nation that each oopsy resulting in the ouchie of a child weighed heavily in the Presidents mind. He recalled the Presidents reaction to a recent report of a child who went night-night from a drone-inflicted boo-boo, He knows when hes made an oopsy. You could just see it written on his face. He just put his hands in his head and whispered Uh-oh, Spaghetti-O. It was a really tense moment.
