Relatives of John Crawford, the man shot dead by police at a Beavercreek Walmart, say theyve contacted civil rights organizations because they believe the shooting was not justified.
They believe he was killed possibly after he picked up a toy gun in the store.
Crawford, 22, of Ridge Drive in Fairfield, was identified as the man Beavercreek police shot and killed Tuesday night.
LeeCee Johnson, who said she is the mother of Crawfords children, said she was on a cell phone call with Crawford when he was shot by officers. She said Crawford went to the area to visit family members.
We was just talking. He said he was at the video games playing videos and he went over there by the toy section where the toy guns were. And the next thing I know, he said Its not real, and the police start shooting and they said Get on the ground, but he was already on the ground because they had shot him, she said, adding: And I could hear him just crying and screaming. I feel like they shot him down like he was not even human.

(120 posts)states refuse to issue to minorities, it's long been known that is true.
I live in Bellevue, WA, and I know at least seven people that have been illegally denied a CWP here. I'm glad they were because I disagree with CWPs, but I'm concerned about how they were denied because of their race.

(120 posts)I went with one friend since he was my ride home, and they told him that they were out of the printed forms and that they were scheduled to receive more in July. This was in November. Of course I can't prove that they told him that because he is Indian, but it certainly seemed fishy.

I have plenty of friends who are other than Caucasian that have been granted a CHL.
Shall Issue means that if the applicant passes all the requirements, the issuing authority has no discretion in the matter, they must issue the permit no matter what race they are.

(120 posts)How would they be counted in the statistics if they get the run around before they're even given the opportunity to apply for it? I'm very much against it, especially since here the legally required waiting period is waived if someone has one, but I'm more against the law being applied unfairly. I met Linda Pillo, the police chief here, when she came into our restaurant after my boss questioned the run around several coworkers got, and I was under the impression that it wasn't race-related, but I can't prove that. I just know that this state is shall issue, and the police here refuse to issue.

(2,186 posts)You're state has a preemption law that says only the state can set firearms laws.
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.290
State preemption.
The state of Washington hereby fully occupies and preempts the entire field of firearms regulation within the boundaries of the state, including the registration, licensing, possession, purchase, sale, acquisition, transfer, discharge, and transportation of firearms, or any other element relating to firearms or parts thereof, including ammunition and reloader components. Cities, towns, and counties or other municipalities may enact only those laws and ordinances relating to firearms that are specifically authorized by state law, as in RCW 9.41.300, and are consistent with this chapter. Such local ordinances shall have the same penalty as provided for by state law. Local laws and ordinances that are inconsistent with, more restrictive than, or exceed the requirements of state law shall not be enacted and are preempted and repealed, regardless of the nature of the code, charter, or home rule status of such city, town, county, or municipality.
That would put your local police dept. at odds with state law and your friends should challenge it in court where they would win.

BTW, why is this in GD? You have two (2) groups for posting a local incident about LEO use of firearms.
