(1,975 posts)She lives in Valley Park which is next to Ferguson. She was returning home with her kids from her parents house, when she pulled up to her house she saw her car windows had been smashed.
Her husband is an IT guy and is currently on the road. She called the cops and said that the cop told her she was the 9th person in the last hour to have her car vandalized and that it is connected to the ferguson violence.
Obviously she is terrified and left her house and returned to her parents house.

(94,264 posts). . .the troops angered some in the crowd and they gathered in the middle of the street a ways down from the market where the Brown cigar theft allegedly took place . . .protestors stood off the police who had approached on foot, then they pulled back to their vehicles and addressed the crowd with a bullhorn asking them to disperse. threatening to arrest or worse
Crowd was intermittently standing firm and being persuaded by the alderman and some NOI members to move out of the street. That's when a store was broken into and the trouble started.
many good guys (and gals) out here . . .
Lots of anger at the police moving in being expressed . . .

Not sure this is safe for these young guys here. . . . but they're expressing their own anger at the looters and looking to help in some way to stop the foolishness.
Lot of good folks out here . . .

(94,264 posts). . . they are standing here at great risk of being swept up in the police net and are trying to regain order, with some success.

I like what I'm seeing this moment . . .
Hats off to Alderman Antonio French who rushed back to the scene and was a one man army working to regain order among the growing crowd facing off against the row of riot police. Heroic effort from a lot of responsible citizens . . .
bigtree
(94,264 posts). . .police showing a lot of restraint
Good move, because the majority of folks here are peaceful and don't approve of any of the nonsense that just occurred
This is a good community with a lot of caring young adults
"These are not protestors looting,," says a woman talking to the camera . . . these are outsiders looking for trouble - provocateurs, as someone wrote above, waiting for the opportunity to jump in and blow it up
They want folks looking in to know that these aren't protestors making trouble.
This looks more like the community we saw earlier in the evening, right now. responsible young folks drifting back in to reassert themselves on the scene and reestablish their intention to stage a peaceful demonstration.
Despite the chaos we just witnessed, this is still a responsible demonstration . . .

(65,137 posts)Kudos to Alderman Antonio French and the young people that defended the stores and good on the police for showing some restraint.
bigtree
(94,264 posts). . . an amazing community of young people who care about their town enough to defend it with their own persons
Kudos to the police who have yet to advance all of the way. No gas, no smoke . . . big change.
