In the wee hours of Monday morning, a car pulled up to the Marin Humane Society in Novato, leaving behind three boxes.
Inside were 24 so-called tuxedo cats, named for their distinctive black and white markings. It was the fourth such occurrence in the last 18 months, said spokeswoman Lisa Bloch, leaving the shelter to care for more than 100 felines.
All the cats, which range in age from kitten to full-grown, appeared to be in good health, with no fleas or diseases. The humane society is simply overrun with animals and is having trouble housing the abandoned felines.
Every cage is full and our staff is overloaded trying to care for them all, Bloch said. Its putting a big strain on us.
The person whos responsible for leaving the cats has been caught on surveillance tape and Bloch said it appears to be the same person every time. The shelter isnt looking to punish the person, however, but instead wants to offer information about getting pets fixed.

BTW, where is this person finding so many? Are all the cats they've been dumping tuxies?

(17,865 posts)Is the person breeding them or just letting their cats breed freely. You are going to get huge numbers in a short time.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)Maybe they do. But since most are non-pedigreed, random-bred cats with a wide gene pooI, I would think it would be hard to breed the genes for other colors and coat patterns out. Maybe she has been dumping only the tuxies for some reason and has who-knows-how-many other cats.

(36,287 posts)That one in the photo certainly does not meet the usual standards for true tuxedo markings, and some people insist their little pets be perfectly stylish. The rest get dumped or killed.

(44,974 posts)Tuxedo is not a breed, it's the pattern of the coloring on the cat.

(10,952 posts)if their markings are perfect. I never knew there was such a thing as perfect markings. If I lived in California I would definitely take a couple.

(46,179 posts)In her expert opinion, I don't lavish enough time and attention on her already...always going off to work, or sleeping, or doing chores, or typing on the keyboard. She is not going to share.
I hope they find families.

(43,198 posts)She was born feral but domesticated very quickly. As affectionate a cat as you'll ever find....whenever she'd see me, she'd run towards me and jump in my lap. Never gave me a problem clipping her nails either. I recall her having a hankering for potato chips.

Hope they find homes, but, jeez, there are just way too many animals needing homes everywhere.
