Does it disturb the Military Veterans here on DU...

To see all these coppers dressing up like Combat Soldiers?

It's like they're playing Call of Duty or something.

A bunch of silly boys playing dress-up. If it weren't so dangerous, it would be funny. The police are police, not soldiers, and certainly not COMBAT soldiers.

They want to intimidate citizens by dressing up like warriors, carrying weapons for overkill then get so upset when someone fires back and kills a couple of them.

Personally, I'm prejudiced. I think cops are reich-wing wackos unless they prove themselves different. Don't get me wrong, most cops are decent. It's the idiots that get guns and badges that give the rest of them a bad name. Those folks need to be weeded out. I can remember when cops were the sons of cops and their claim to fame is their genes made them big.

I live in Podunk, Texas where cops can be a problem. First up, some counties pay them a wage where they have to draw on government assistance in order to live and take care of their families. Case in point, Liberty County, Texas. Then, if a wack job cop gets in trouble in his jurisdiction, he/she will resign and move on to the next job. The geographical cure for the incompetence problem, right? That's the way it works. So, many good cops have to deal with that small percentage of idiots with a badge, giving them a bad name and reputation.

The local sheriffs department is all dressed in dark blue almost black. The seem to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off, when you see one you see at least a couple and many times they'll be running red up and down our highways at a high rate of speed.

When I see cops wearing riot gear, it's usually because they're dealing with a riot. I don't see the problem.

But, that doesn't give them the right to dress up as warriors to threaten and intimidate citizens. That is what they are doing. They are planning for a TERRORIST attack. However, that "terrorist" attack might end up being sane citizens that have had enough of the abuse from the wackos with a badge.

they do not have a right, but, we as a nation have brought this upon ourselves with the worship of war and occupying poor nations because of resources they may have. Warriors in some cases could also be seen as bullies.

Police are now trained as if this:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Hollywood_shootout
Is going to happen every day.
It's an awful line to ride. Everything they are taught is to follow a Use of Force scale and escalate as the threat escalates. The concept of Adam 12/Dragnet criminals is lost.

Please note, my comment has nothing to do with the horrible death of Mr Brown.
There is no justification for that.

As their normal uniform.

It disturbs me when SWAT is sent to 'investigate' a party where there smell of pot burning was reported.

It disturbs me when the same guys taze a young deaf man to death for not following verbal orders.

It disturbs me when the same guys choke a mentally challenged man to death for movie hopping in a multiplex cinema.

Yeah, I'm disturbed.
