(4,835 posts)Conservatives seem to think that Reagan was fiscally responsible. As long as you're kicking around poor people - there's no limit to how much you can spend on the military and still balance the budget.
Once you've convinced them that the press is left leaning it isn't hard to convince them that Reagan balanced the federal budget.
Once they've been convinced that Reagan was fiscally responsible - the solution to all economic problems is to do what Reagan did.

(47,953 posts)Everything would be just fine and no taxes would be needed at all if we could just somehow stop giving those takers trillions!
That's what I see posted constantly on message boards and letters to the editor. There is simply no connection with reality.

(4,835 posts)Is the attitude that I see toward food stamps.
If we don't provide the people who can't afford to buy food the resources to eat - then grocery stores, farmers and food processing industries suffer.
If we don't spend the money on 'defense' - we could spend that same money on infrastructure. What I see (on Facebook) is hatred toward poor people getting government help, but support toward the wealthy getting government help.
It doesn't make sense.

The propaganda has been very effective.

Of course I hope she never has to find out, but still...
