What it is is exactly clear
There are white men with guns everywhere
Telling blacks, "You'd better beware!"
I'm not just talking about Ferguson, and I'm not just talking about cops. Since before Obama was even inauguarated, there's been a huge upsurge in white-driven gun sales, open displays of loaded weapons in public---remember the fuckwits outside the building Obama was speaking in?---and of course, the rise of the Tea Party, who, after eight years of budget-buster spending and debt explosion under Cheneybush, plus the shredding of the Constitution by same, woke up on the morning of 01/20/09 and suddenly realized that our finances and freedoms were imperiled!
Russia? China? North Korea? Iran? LOL! There's only one goddamn country in this world that can destroy America, and we're doing a fucking good job of it.

(56,198 posts)people singing song and carrying signs
mostly saying "hooray for our side".
and then the verse about paranoia.
seems pretty dismissive of protesting, although maybe it's meant to be pretty dismissive of both sides? is it just a "can't we all just get along" song?

(Stole that line from poet Archibald MacLeish.)
Seriously, though, it's the harmonics at the 7th and 12th frets of the 1st string that make that song 'pop'. A friend of mine -- something of a guitar virtuoso -- worked up a solo arrangement on acoustic guitar that totally rocked.

They say in Ferguson Town
There are no neutrals then
You'll either be a rebel son
Or a thug for 'Culloch's men.
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
RIP Pete Seeger.
