Live on MSNBC right now - in Boca Raton, Florida - speaking about the effects of the new proposed Ryan Budget, taxes, education.. giving concrete examples and really explaining things in a way I've never heard from him before. I do believe he's given up on bipartisanship, finally. The audience is going wild.
This Obama is unbeatable. Wow.
"And now, its our turn to be responsible. It's our turn to preserve The American dream for future generations. It's our turn to rebuild, to make sure we have the most competetive work force on earth, to make sure that we have clean energy that can help clean the planet and help fuel the economy. It's our turn to rebuild our roads and bridges and airports and ports. It's our turn to make sure that every person, every child here, if they're willing to dream big dreams and put blood, sweat and tears behind it, they can make it. I know we can do that. We can do that because of you. You're here because you believe in your future. You're working hard. Some of you are balancing job and family on the side. You have faith in America. You know it's not going to be easy but you don't give up. That's the spirit we need right now.
Because here in America, we don't give up. Here in America, we look out for each other. Here in America, we help each other get ahead. Here in America, we can meet any challenge. Here in America we can seize any moment. We can seize this moment and we can make this century another great American century."
HOLY MOTHER.. I couldn't type as fast as he was talking.
I want this thing in a booklet. This is our battle cry. "Here in America, we can."

(22,541 posts)Lets all make sure we work for Congress and Senate as well. That's the only way we'll get much of our agenda passed, such as repeal of DOMA and better health care, education, etc. Pres can't do it all by himself, now can he?
THIS is our time. And WE are who we've been waiting for. WE've got to step up to the plate.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Because I heard a LOT of this during the 2008 campaign. And when the rubber hit the road in 2010, we got stuck with another two years (at least) of the ruinous Bush-era tax policy. Even during the lame duck session of Congress, when outgoing Democrats couldn't possibly be hurt by it, neither Congress nor the President could be found to say, "You know what? Just let those lower tax rates expire. They were originally given a 10-year fuse in order to make the numbers come out right for a balanced budget. But they clearly haven't done what they were supposed to do, we're deeper in debt than ever. Let's go back to the Clinton-era tax brackets, when we had not just a balanced budget, but a surplus! And the great thing is, we can accomplish this by doing nothing. The Republicans don't get another say in the matter."
So wake me when something happens, rather than just gets talked about. "This is the best we could have done" is an excuse, not an explanation.

(27,993 posts)An individual relies on speeches and pundits to decide who is on their side. And then they vote between two candidates largely funded by corporations.
Corporations have Armies of Lobbyists who pour over every line of legislation to decide who is on their side. And then they dole out big $$$ to those who are.
The inevitable result:
We get Great Speeches, Corporations get Great Laws.
And it's not just Obama, it's just about every politician who operates within this system. It has taken small d democracy to the grave. The consequences of THAT are so profound, I don't believe anyone has wrapped their brain around it.

(14,933 posts)electorate", KNOWS what you say is true. I can't solve that right at this moment. I'd like to see a corrupt political system completely restructured. But I don't think it's something I can fix. What I can do is be aware of it. And what I can do it vote for the person who gives us a better chance of surviving...and for a few minutes, I can get excited again about politics.

Tarheel_Dem
(31,239 posts)"Turning left" is subjective. He never had to "turn" anything for most of us. We know who we supported and ultimately elected in '08. He's not saying anything now that he hasn't been saying all along. He certainly can't be blamed for folk's ignorance of the facts.

obxhead
(8,434 posts)I simply pointed out my feelings on the OP.
You can feel however you would like to feel about my comment. I really don't care.
The fact is President Obama has spoken and acted different as President than he did during his campaign. Given the fact that we are again in an active campaign season I won't put any stock in his rhetoric until this campaign season has concluded and Obama begins to actively pursue the many things he will no doubt promise for my vote.
There is a school of thought that says "the truth hurts." Based on your reaction to my posts, I must have written a bit of truth.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,239 posts)a celebratory thread, and there are a ton of sites (of which I'm sure you're familiar) dedicated to trashing Pres. Obama. Many of those sites direct their attacks at this one. Hopefully, now that The Mittster has essentially locked up the nomination, which means the primary season is all but over, and DU's general campaign season rules will go into effect.
Pres. Obama's the nominee, whether you like it or not, and that tickles the shit outta me.

(8,434 posts)coming dangerously close to accusing me of being a freeper.
The fact is I campaigned for Obama in 2008 and I fully support a true Democratic platform. I don't feel Obama has lived up to my expectations from 2008.
I support my right to post the comment as I wish, within the threads that I wish to, within the rules of the site.
You may not agree with my opinion and that is your right. It is not your right to tell how and where I should express that opinion as long as there is no TOS violation of the forum.

(31,239 posts)Doesn't matter because for all intents and purposes, now that Mitt Romney is the undisputed nominee of the Repuke Party, I'm told the rules around here are getting ready to change. I'm sure you've heard that as well? Last gasps....and all.

Tarheel_Dem
(31,239 posts)All the noise is a minor distraction, nothing more. But I think it's important for those seeking the re-election of the president to be allowed to work toward that end, and taking back the House.
Democrats know that Romney's the enemy, and these startup parties that have recently sprung up only serve to help Mitt Romney. I'm just hopeful that Skinner will enforce his own rules, and soon.
