Ferguson Police Report Raises More Questions Than It AnswersSaki Knafo - HuffPo

Its been nearly two weeks since a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, shot and killed an unarmed teenager, but the police department has yet to offer a full account of the hazy circumstances surrounding Michael Browns death.
An official incident report, which the American Civil Liberties Union obtained from police and released on Friday, answers none of the pressing questions that hang over the killing. If anything, it raises new ones.
The two-page document is almost entirely blank. It includes the address, time of day and a handful of other bare-bones details, but does not include a description of the scene, quotes from eyewitnesses, names of the officers involved, or any other pieces of information normally found on such documents.
Whats going on? asked Vanita Gupta, legal director of the ACLU. Whats the Ferguson police chief thinking? What hes doing?
We spent a fair amount of time looking at these two incident reports, trying to understand what they say, and frankly, more what they dont say, Gupta added. They just further demonstrate the lack of transparency and lack of information that is being provided by the Ferguson police department about about the Michael Brown shooting.
The Ferguson police department did not immediately respond to a voicemail requesting comment. The department only released the document after the ACLU filed a lawsuit demanding access to all incident reports pertaining to the shooting, Gupta said. Two and a half lines at the top of the report appear to be redacted.

(5 posts)The Feds aren't going to have a fast one pulled on them. Even if the the murder charge doesn't stick every single person in that department is on their way to prison for obstruction, possibly perjury if they lie to the feds, conspiracy charges, and so many other civil rights charges that I can't even begin to name them.

I created this user name, thinking it'd be funny, but seeing as no one thinks it's as funny as I had hoped, I tried to change it, but, alas, I can't figure out how to change my username

(14,040 posts)I think I know what this is. Wilson started to file a report and was told before getting too far into it to stop. However, since the report was started they couldn't throw it out, so they kept it. When the ACLU went to court to get the incident report, they got this. That's my theory anyway.

(65,616 posts)And the hits just keep on coming...they planned for this to be just like all other times they've treated the black community like dirt.
I can't wait to see what the FBI has to say about this.

(34,825 posts)and that the nice officer isn't under any obligation to submit an incident report because of the 5th Amendment. surely, the ACLU is out of it's league here. this is totally on the up and up. nothing to see. please drive through.

(43,165 posts)what I heard on a radio program. I heard Cyril Wecht, the famous forensics pathologist, was looking into this death and requested info from the police department. They refused certain information.
This comes from his co-author on his books, Dawna Kaufmann.
There's a caveat to this. I wasn't listening closely to the program, being distracted by a project I was working on. But I think this is what I heard.

(31,346 posts)Get new - preferably non racist - leadership, and make every one of those officers reapply for their jobs.
Already we've seen 3 bad cops there: the one who killed Brown, the one who pushed the reporter, and the one who said he was going to "fucking shoot" a citizen. Imagine the rot that lies beneath these.
Oh, and edited to say the new PD should mirror the makeup of the community it serves!

(12,374 posts)The Brown's need to hire a major leaguer like Tom Mesereau. Or better yet, they need to hire Tom Mesereau. I mean no offense to the attorneys of record but if any offense is taken, tough shit. This is no time to mess around with a guy, no matter how much of a gentleman he is, who couldn't get Trayvon Martin's killer convicted. If there's a fund I'll contribute what I can. Mesereau would take these Missouri rubes to school.
pintobean
(18,101 posts)and neither is Mesereau. A victim's family attorney doesn't try a criminal case, the state does.
Here endith the civics lesson.

(16,413 posts)show that the killer cop was on the scene for 7.5 hours afterward. Just how injured was he again?
MoleyRusselsWart
(101 posts)I've see enough mild to severe head and eye injuries as a hockey ref of 15 years (and a player for 25) from punches, scuffles and so on to know for a fact, based on the videos of Wilson immediately after the shooting, that he did not receive any substantial injury to his eye. You can tell this by the lack of visual evidence in the videos, but more importantly by his behavior. He received no significant injury, and probably barely any minor ones.
mercuryblues
(16,413 posts)the opinion that the FPD are so used to not being questioned that they have no choice to obstruct. By not being questioned they are also very poor liars. By having it out there that the cop was on the scene for over 7 hours it proves he was not severely hurt. I don't even think a minor injury. He never rubbed or touched his face where he was supposedly injured.

(45,984 posts)After the fact that Mike Brown was shot dead while unarmed and his body left uncovered for hours and the horrific behavior of law enforcement officers on the streets of Ferguson, the ugliest thing about this affair has been the willful contempt that law enforcement has shown to the public in this matter. The police have attacked journalists, who while not perfect are the eyes and ears of the public in matters such as this, they have withheld information about the incident that should be routinely disseminated and released information defaming the victim that is immaterial to his incident itself.
This incident report is part of this pattern.
Chief Jackson is clearly irresponsible. He is either orchestrating the stonewalling, winking and nodding while it happens or finds himself in the unfortunate position of presiding over a rogue police force that is out of control. This has got to stop, and it appears that Chief Jackson is not the man to stop it.
