I think I want to talk tonight about how grand juries work, for those interested. Bottom line: The PROSECUTOR decides what facts to produce.

April @ReignOfApril
Maybe yall understand that. But if the Grand Jury doesnt bring forth an indictment, MIGHT be because of the way the case was presented.
April @ReignOfApril
Do. You. Hear. Me. If the Prosecutor decides something isnt relevant to the case, the Grand Jury never hears it. Then a decision is made.
April @ReignOfApril
This is why the Prosecutor MUST be impartial and be on the side of justice. Because s/he decides what info the Grand Jury hears to decide.

(83,898 posts)First and foremost I wish to see justice for Michael Brown. Second, it is my hope that America wakes up and finally admits that we have a problem here. It's so easy for some to stand up and say white privileged does not exist. I find it sad that they can not acknowledge what is staring them in the face.
Thank you for that heart-wrenching cover shot Cali_Democrat...it tells a story, a sad one at best. Bless the children, may they be safe.

(8,434 posts)I mean the police, during the night in Ferguson.
The photo was taken from the protest lines facing the militarized police force present.
If you had been following the story, you would know Michael was shot in daylight. This is one of the night time protests...the police decided to emulate the Bush administation and give us some of that old Shock and Awe.

If you're worried about looking like assholes then perhaps you should stop acting like assholes.
Just a suggestion.

(83,898 posts)So very sad. I am ashamed of America. Our police and their reaction in Ferguson. I weep for us because this is not how we all feel. This needs to stop and I hope it stops here.
The world is watching us. We need to get this right for a change. And we damn well need to do it now!

(83,898 posts)The disgrace of the PD et all and the real stories about those who protested. Yes there will always be some bad out of a situation like this. However, those that tried to quell the looting, bring water and supplies to the protesters...and clean up! They respect where they live and they were cleaning up the streets.
This says so much about the people of Ferguson. And the police, yes it SPEAKS VOLUMES about them Volumes and it damn well is not pretty.

(11,156 posts)The Brown's need to hire a major leaguer like Tom Mesereau. Or better yet, they need to hire Tom Mesereau. I mean no offense to the attorneys of record but if any offense is taken, tough shit. This is no time to mess around with a guy, no matter how much of a gentleman he is, who couldn't get Trayvon Martin's killer convicted. If there's a fund I'll contribute what I can. Mesereau would take these Missouri rubes to school.

(18,101 posts)How could Mesereau get a conviction, and how did Crump fail to get a conviction?
Neither of them are prosecuting attorneys.
mobeau69
(11,156 posts)Didn't the Martin's want a conviction and didn't they hire Crump? And isn't Mesereau an outstanding lawyer? The prosecutor will really be working for the defendant in this case and not the Brown's. But I thought that was pretty much understood.

New York State chief judge Sol Wachtler was famously quoted by Tom Wolfe in The Bonfire of the Vanities that "a grand jury would 'indict a ham sandwich,' if that's what you wanted."
This photo is not going to rock the world. It should. Let's make it go viral - post it on every social media network out there, with the photographer's credits and the fact that he was one of the ones the militia (calling themselves police) detained.
And let's hope it doesn't end in Fahrenheit 451.

Seemingly unimportant local offices count -- a lot. Get the vote out for good candidates. Don't just let the party hierarchies decide who runs and wins.

(2,741 posts)for the reminder that black people are not really human...being treated like animals is their reality in Ferguson, MO. Will Michael Brown get the justice he deserves?
