Is a race war in the offing?

All of the events surrounding the shooting of Travon Martin makes me think so
And all of these actions by the state and the media make me think that it is exactly what they want to happen...for black people to become so angry that they arm themselves and start shooting white people...
And I say this because it would be quite a plumb for the GOP if it came right before the election and Obama had to send in the feds to stop it...it would fulfill the right wing prophecies that say Obama is a communist that wants to take over the country....plus the added benefit of killing a lot of black people and emboldening the right wing extremist that are heavily armed and would just love to go out and do more than just play war...and it would be so profitable for the arms industry.

I know I am cynical so no need to tell me so...and time will tell if I am right.

But if GZ gets away with this murder then there is only one way to stop it and avoid the terrible consequences that would follow...and that is for a massive non violent protest...and I emphasize non violent...one so large that they must do something.
But if these radicals are allowed to stir up violence I fear for this country.

But on a big picture scale there is no way there going to be a race war over this. Here in Philadelphia everyone is just going about their lives all mixed together with no animosity. I think perhaps that because we are engaged on the issue we tend to think everyone is when in fact most people don't care at all, let alone enough to race war over it. There might be some trouble in Sanford but there will be no nationwide rioting/race warring or whatever over it. People have enough on their plate just keeping a roof over their heads and feeding their families. People tend to focus on their own immediate problems and let the rest of the world do its own spinning.

At least not over something like this. People will be upset, but people are often upset about major stories with a race angle (see OJ, Rodney King, etc.)

I will say this though. I've always maintained that post-apocalyptic fiction ('The Road,' 'The Stand' etc.) usually gets race wrong. One very early consequence of a world of scarcity without any higher authority would be violent racial clashes.

But an apocalyptic event is a very remote possibility (and I could be wrong - at least I hope I am). Something like Zimmerman wouldn't even cause riots. There would be a few broken windows and scuffles here and there, but not much beyond that.

But that was really the only time he referenced racial conflict in a 900 page book, aside from a few racial cracks the bad guys made about the old black religious woman. I think it would be much more widespread and depending on the circumstances, perhaps the most serious major conflict in a post-apocalyptic world. I think it would start almost immediately as well.

BTW, the book 'Lucifer's Hammer' (about a comet hitting earth) deals with the race issue a bit more.

What I'm afraid of: the RNC convention is in Tampa, which is just across the peninsula from Sanford, a two-hour drive. I'm all for non-violent protests and marches, and the convention is still months away, but with freaking neo-Nazis demonstrating in Sanford now, I'm just hoping for peace there.

27. If an idea of a race war is a someone(or more than one) becomes angry and buys arms and then shoots

people of another race then it already started a long time ago. While your example is never out of the question in a few cases, unlikely to be significant because they already have to do deal with judgments regardless of the model behavior exhibited during a lifetime and that it is unlikely to be some widespread thing just to "prove" they're right when already they have countless disadvantages based on these perceptions. I'm sure there will be other forms of protesting or way of responding to media, GZ,etc but don't believe it will be exactly that. The reason I believe the becoming angry, buying example is more common with whites is that far more often the opposite as happened (as shown in GZ) as well as advantages in countless examples so they already have a far more likely chances of getting away with it (and judging by sentences handed down to defendants in cases with a black victim) and far less deterrence to others thinking of committing similar crimes.

I feel my post could be out of line because I'm going by complete opinion w/ a few facts to support those and dealing with sensitive topics. I almost feel your post could be out of line but you don't directly say that you think that is going to happen, only that the media & state wants it to happen which I could see media because that would mean huge ratings(I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted hurricanes to happen).
