There's no telling what monsters humanity is creating by using the oceans as our gutters and dumping grounds.

I saw this on gCaptain a few days ago and debated posting it here on DU, but I found myself repelled by the graphic nature of it. I know, total Marlin Perkins Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom moment, but I just couldn't bring myself to posting it. Thank you for doing so (so I wouldn't get flamed for it ).

That said, groupers are big ol' mfers!

It's not like watching a cuddly, cute, baby seal being eaten by a shark. The emotional shock isn't there. We really can't relate to sharks or Giant Groupers emotionally. So I posted it.

makes me think it's highly likely that it would have swallowed a man in the water with no difference in perception. It was hungry so it fed.

That isn't much of a consolation. I'm still excited about it and not in a good way. The ease with which the shark was swallowed enables me to think that a couple or so feet longer wouldn't make that much difference.

One came up screaming that a grouper had swallowed his buddy. Shortly after the other fellow surfaced. He said it really swallowed him but maybe the bubbles irritated the fish and it spit him out. The story was in the Houston Chronicle.

Of course, to catch such a fish, you'd need a super duper grouper scooper.

And the trained crewmember who handles that equipment is naturally the super duper grouper scooper trooper.

I'm very confused about why people think the video is graphic.

This is what happens in the world. It would happen with or without humans on the planet.

The "humor" is the shock of seeing such a huge fish taking the fisherman's catch and the people's reaction. People are used to seeing sharks as hunter instead of hunted. Every living thing has a place on the food chain.

Yeah, so you're a large grouper with a whole living shark inside of you. That doesn't sound like a good situation to be in!

Does the shark just stop trying to live? I bet not. I bet the shark uses those teeth and something bad happens.

I was thinking that the shark could just chew its way out. But maybe there's a chemical in the grouper's body that immobilizes the shark. To live that long and get that big, the grouper must have something going on for him.
