Rand Paul on Ferguson: "There is a very good chance that this had nothing to do with race."

"Let's say you're African-American and you live there, let's say none of this has to do with race. It might not, but the belief — if you're African-American and you live in Ferguson, the belief is, you see people in prison and they're mostly black and brown, that somehow it is racial, even if the thoughts that were going on at that time had nothing to do with race.

"So it's a very good chance that had(sic) this had nothing to do with race, but because of all of the arrest and the way people were arrested, that everybody perceives it as, 'My goodness, the police are out to get us,' you know? And so that's why you have to change the whole war on drugs. It's not just this one instance."

More..

Our bad.. we only "perceive it" as such.. Only Rand Paul in his infinite wisdom knows what's going on here... and there's a "very good chance that this had nothing to do with race "

I like this from the comment section at the link..

"So some white guy from Kentucky is telling the black people in Ferguson that it’s all in their head. Rand Paul doesn’t know a dam thing about what it’s like to be black." anniebella

Chris Hayes: Rand Paul Has 3 Racist Strikes Now

This isn't an isolated incident, Hayes argued, listing the three "white supremacist strikes" Paul has racked up so far.

"Strike one was in 2009 when Rand Paul's Senate campaign spokesperson was forced to resign over a horribly racist comment and historical image of a lynching -- I'm not making that up -- posted by a friend of his on his MySpace wall on Martin Luther King weekend, then allowed to remain for almost two years," Hayes said.

Strike two, Hayes added, was when Paul expressed reservations about the Civil Rights Act in an interview on the Rachel Maddow Show. (Paul later said in a statement that he supports the Civil Rights Act "because I overwhelmingly agree with the intent of the legislation, which was to stop discrimination in the public sphere and halt the abhorrent practice of segregation and Jim Crow laws.&quot

"And now this. Southern Avenger on the Senator's staff," Hayes said. "Well, I'm sorry, Rand Paul. That's three racist strikes. You're out."

Like arcane says in this thread.. "Rand Paul talks out of both side of his ass."

Rand Paul falsely claims he supports Civil and Voting Rights Acts

But Paul’s previous statements on these topics cast serious doubts on his rhetoric this morning…

Rand Paul on the Voting Rights Act: “It was a time in our country when the color of your skin did need to factor into voting, but we’ve really gotten beyond that now. We have an African-American president.” [Newsmax, 6/25/13] Stupid.

Rand Paul on the Civil Rights Act: “I think it’s a bad business decision to exclude anybody from your restaurant, but, at the same time, I do believe in private ownership.” [Editorial Board, Louisville Courier-Journal, April 2010]

Thank you for the article, she.. very important to have this information on Rand Paul.. cause like it says in your link..

"Though Paul has drawn favor from liberals for his defense of civil liberties and opposition to America's wars, the MSNBC host argued on Tuesday night's installment of "All In With Chris Hayes" that it's impossible to take him seriously after the revelation that one of his aides used to be a neo-Confederate activist."

He's had a lot of practice talk out of both sides of his mouth. For instance, his doubletalk--not to mention outright lies--about his opinion of the Civil Rights Act.

Bob Cull at Americans Against the Tea Party recently wrote a piece about a Rachel Maddow segment in which she replayed a previous interview in which, after much effort on her part to extract the truth, he admitted believing that the Act had over-reached by forbidding open-to-the-public businesses to reject African-American customers.

In the fashion for which he has become famous, Paul danced around the issue saying that he supported nine tenths of the law...

But finally admitted to Maddow that he doesn't support that part.

Cull says Maddow then played a clip from Paul's recent interview with NBC’s Casey Hunt...
...in which he looked her straight in the eye and lied.

“You noted in your speech you support the Civil Rights Act,” Hunt said. “But specifically, do you think that private businesses should be allowed to discriminate based on race?”

Predictably, Paul replied with a terse, “No.”

“So you’ve changed from when you said before you were concerned about that title?” She asked.

“I never said before,” Paul lied.
