What are the best alternative news publications in your city and/or state?

Trying to gather a list.

I know that in Seattle The Stranger is a must read.
And embarrassed to say I forgot the name of the one for SF.

Whatcha got, guys?

The Detroit Metro Times is the "corporate" alt news source, part of the same corporation that owns the Village Voice, Chicago Reader, Creative Loafing etc etc

City Pages here in the Twin Cities used to be worth reading. No longer. And, since it and its parent organization owns backpage.com, which is a hotbed of human trafficking, I can no longer support it at all, even by reading it.

You want alternative news, you have to go to local blogs. Everything in print is pretty much advertising driven.

In fact, better, since that is the only way one can read several/ many alternative papers from various places.

We have the free weekly. I just wish they would do more serious articles than they do now. Because when they do cover regular news they get it right. Objective and informative journalism.

KGNU is an independent radio station.

The Westword is part of the Village Voice media system, and has been problematic since the death of the Rocky Mountain News. The Denver Post was the conservative paper, the Rocky was the liberal-skeptical paper, and the Westword was, for lack of better term, likely to take the woo/SCAM side. Without the Rocky to push, Westword has gotten even less interested in science and rationality.

I miss the Rocky. It was a damn fine paper. The CoIndy got a lot of their talent and skills from former Rocky journalists and editorial.

and it got gobbled up in similar manner.

Down here in Ala. all the Republican papers are bland, hardly any news of importance unless its a wreck or explosion, VERY slanted.
