This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by bluesbassman (a host of the General Discussion forum).
Had it not been for DU's Third Wayers sending out the Bat Signal alerting DU's Democratic Party Faithful that apparently, all of DU's progressives have signed on to the Ron Paul for President campaign I would have never known! I just want to know, where the HELL is my memo? Do we need to overhaul the mail room, the data processing methods, what? Come on, people, get your act together! I mean, if I was missed that means others, maybe thousands of us of us have not yet been informed that we must now align with the right-wing Libertarians.

(14,733 posts)They can't read well, so are interpreting warnings about Paul's danger with a soundbite-driven electorate as being 'support' for Paul.
The reality is that ceding the 'populist' mantle to a Republican while running a Wall Street candidate is a really bad idea.
It's never fun being Cassandra.

(31,849 posts)Who, exactly, is terming paul's dreck "Populist" and/or "progressive."
I mostly see it from the "corporatist" media and DU progressives. Don't you think that strange?

(14,733 posts)The corporate media is what most Americans are going to base their votes on.
NOTHING Paul does is 'progressive'. Anything he does that seems 'left' is coming from some bizarre RW reasoning that has nothing to do with reality, and merely coincidentally coincides with positions that actually are left.
The man is a nightmare who would kill off a fifth of the American population by destroying the social safety net.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't point out that he's trying to grab the 'populist mantle' for his political ambitions. And that that's electorally dangerous, especially if he wins and is put up against a Dem candidate with strong wall street ties.

(5,213 posts)Confusing, to say the least, since no one on DU gave a shit about the Paul's before.
Now they want to claim anyone to the left of right-of-center Hillary is a Paul fanboy. I'd blame it on their reading comprehension, but they can read just fine, they are simply choosing to misinterpret anything even slightly critical of Hillary so that they can smear progressives.

(108,959 posts)In her years there she was consistently among the most progressive in the Senate. She's not right of center in the US -- she's among the more liberal.

(5,402 posts)Oh, and then there was the whole PATRIOT Act POS.
Sounds like someone needs to look up the definition of "consistent" and "progressive."

But her record is as a solid progressive.

Besides, you don't need to get the memo because the pattern is the same as every year:
If you disagree with the Third Wayers, six months of the year your a rightie libertarian troll and six months of the year you are a traitorous naderite fringe leftist.
Twelve months of the year they sound like silly goofballs but you do get in trouble for pointing that out.

We've played this game before and lost. It is up to the Paul Supporters to explain And Prove how and why "this time is different".
I'm sure as hell Not interested enough to go looking for it.
