(110,159 posts)as i said there, and tuesday said, it is an interesting thread from many aspects. just bringing up the thread about his beliefs, totally important to know. but....
you are right on to start this OP for clarity.
BainsBane
(57,779 posts)They should write their own content and refrain from calling out other posters, especially in the title. Since he has not edited out my name, as I requested, I can only assume ill intent.
CTyankee
(68,471 posts)have requested it. You are right to question motive here.

(110,159 posts)we had to continually clarify that redq did not call women whatever. she used the word, expressing how men were seeing women. she NEVER called women that. yet.... you persevered accusing redq of calling women that.
yes
i do believe truth gets out. and i believe it is important to call a lie.

(26,700 posts)I don't see that you have any hidden posts that would lock you out of either the thread you linked or the one you refer to; have the jury rules changed in some way?
LittleBlue
(10,362 posts)That thread wasn't hidden, so why must she make a new thread? Is she prevented from replying in the old one for some reason?
Oh well
BainsBane
(57,779 posts)but that the person who creates an OP mocking me does?
petronius
(26,700 posts)Not sure how you read it as any sort of suggestion...
(But for clarity, I think you have as much right as anyone here to create as many OPs you like, on whatever topics you like.)

(56,912 posts)I do think he probably started out with intent to mock her but, I also think it backfired on him.
Hell, silly me. I would be proud to have an internet Meme started over something I posted.
but, out of respect for Baine's feelings I will refrain from calling it The BaineBane's Test.
I gotta admit it has nice "ring" to it and seems it has proved helpful to some of us.
I may or may not be a good feminist my own self
but, I am trying and, learning and, growing as a human being and, in the end, that is what matters most to me.

(33,688 posts)I thought the list was well worth thinking about and responded to it in all seriousness. I'd add some specifically economic issues to it, but I found it interesting and thought-provoking. And as I noted yesterday, I think we have far more to agree about than not.
Have a good Labor Day weekend.

(37,748 posts)Half-witted misogynists like to appear clever and will reinvent concepts to better maintain that pretense. Should that include the half-witted misogynist compelled to redefine positions you hold, we may safely presume the half-witted misogynist has no firm ground to stand on, and feels forced to reshape your position to better trivialize it for the half-witted misogynist's own agenda.
Not that I'm calling any one person a half-witted misogynist mind you... it's simply a generalized observation of the posting habits of a demographic which is both half-witted and misogynistic.
Inkfreak
(1,695 posts)But I liked the idea of addressing each of your points. Creating an OP and naming it after you does makes it feel like they're mocking you, so I understand your POV.
BainsBane
(57,779 posts)was the "you're a bad person . . .you need reeducation." No where did I say, imply, of think that if someone disagreed with me on an issue they were a "bad person." There was no suggestion of a score above or below which someone was a misogynist. The point was simply to demonstrate positions that I and some others find troubling.

(18,629 posts)I find it hard to believe that anyone on DU would have to go into therapy because they "failed" your putative "test." Somehow, this strikes me as a classic example of attacking the messenger because the message is unpalatable. But that cannot be, such things don't happen on DU.

sarisataka
(22,835 posts)may be thought provoking and lead to worthy discussion, the misdirection of the source of said "test" implies that OP is furthering an agenda.
Also I understand that while you could defend yourself in the thread, such response could easily be overlooked in the list of replies.
In general, I find it in bad form to specifically name a DU poster in the title of an OP unless it is solely about that poster- usually recognizing some real world event.

(57,779 posts)Or without their permission. I would never do such a think unless it was to affirm support for a member and I had their permission.

(10,745 posts)The idea of reducing feminism to purity tests is an insult and demeans issues of human equality that many liberals care deeply about.
I wish I could believe you 100%, B.B., I really do. Sadly, given my experiences here, I have to be a little skeptical.
Because I know I've been attacked and demeaned by a certain few for not toeing a certain few party lines, even though I do quite well understand, and deeply care about, women's issues myself. And it really
So what else is there to say? To be truthful, B.B., if you truly are that concerned about purity tests, then let's try to get some legitimate discussions going. Let's not shut down people because they don't agree with the more literal interpretations of "privilege", or because they may be critical of the idea of "rape culture", etc.
Can we try, just for ONCE, to have a real discussion around here? It'd really help set this place back on a better course, much better than the one that we've been on for the past year or so.
BainsBane
(57,779 posts)I thank the main forum hosts for locking the call out thread of me. There is no longer need for this thread so I am self-deleting. I post the OP in its entirely for purposes of transparency. I thank everyone for their support.
I listed concerns, issues. No where did I present it as a test or insist if anyone disagreed with me on some or most of those issues they were a "bad person." The point was to inform about positions that some of us who are feminists find concerning. It was also to point out that misogyny means more than the commonly understood definition of hatred of women but also refers to persistent discrimination against women. Many people are unaware of the latter meaning.
Unfortunately, since a jury allowed a Meta call out of me in that thread, I am left with no alternative but to defend myself here. I would prefer not to have to do so. I would prefer a discussion about issues rather than some ridiculous notion of a "BainsBane test." No such test exists. The last time I created a test, it was for final exams in Latin American history and Comparative Slavery. Those are the only kinds of tests I create.
The idea of reducing feminism to purity tests is an insult and demeans issues of human equality that many liberals care deeply about.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
