Note to mods: this isn't really run-of-the-mill celeb news. If it turns out to be true, it's one of the most notorious instances of hacking in history. I decided to put this here because if true, this is pretty huge.
The leak has been traced back [4chan]. The photos have not yet been authenticated. posted on Aug. 31, 2014, at 2:12 p.m.
A massive leak of nude and risque photos of huge stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Kirsten Dunst, and Kate Upton leaked online today, first appearing on the /b/ thread on 4chan.
The pictures allegedly were retrieved due to an iCloud leak that allowed celebrities phones to be hacked, and were posted on 4chan in an attempt to earn bitcoins.

Seems to be confirmed 100% real.

Whoever did this is going to prison for... uh forever.
PSA: Watch out if you use iCloud. You may have been hacked. Get any photos you don't want people to see off iCloud until Apple can figure out what happened and fix the vulnerability.
Apologies if this turns out to be a hoax, but I thought you should know in case iCloud has indeed been hacked.

(6,342 posts)If you take digital pictures and send them through email, text, iCloud, twitter, facebook, internet chats, or anything like that... they can be easily acquired by hackers. And once a picture is set loose on the internet, it's impossible to destroy.
The best piece of advice is when you send a photo through an electronic device....assume it can be seen by everyone.

(10,362 posts)You can't escape it on any forum right now. Twitter, celeb sites, forums, doesn't matter. Type in "hack" on twitter and it's nude photos one after another. I haven't shown any nude photos on here out of respect for those who got hacked.
It's the biggest scandal since the British tabloids hacked that missing person's phone.

*****ATTENTION ALL WHITE KNIGHTS AND SJWs*****
Yes, private pictures of all these celebrities were released to the public. And yes, it is those celebrities' faults. Countless numbers of phone hacks and leaked pictures have plagued the world of A-list actresses before this event. It should be common knowledge by now NOT to keep nude pictures of yourself on file. Any female celebrity that does this is a whore begging for attention, and they deserve exactly what has just happened.
Today has been a great victory for my dick.

(20,176 posts)In case you missed it, this is the same group of assholes that had a countdown clock until the girl that starred in an Icelandic children's show turned 14 because that's the sexual age of majority in Iceland. They then celebrated her 14th birthday with "she's legal now" gifs.
Were you expecting human decency from them?

(49,212 posts)If an actress wants you to see her naked she'll take a role with a nude scene, or do a magazine layout and she'll make some money for it. If some dickbag hacks her phone that's not an invitation to disregard her control over her own body and her own image.
Disgusting.

one Hollywood executive allegedly said, "GREAT career move!"
That list of names that was hidden is SUSPICIOUSLY long. To find the culprits, the victims may not have to look any farther than their own publicity machines.

LOS ANGELES -- A federal judge on Monday sentenced a man who hacked into the personal online accounts of Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and other women to 10 years in prison.
U.S. District Judge S. James Otero sentenced Christopher Chaney in Los Angeles after hearing from a tearful Johansson in a videotaped statement..
The biggest spectacle in the case was the revelation that nude photos taken by Johansson herself and meant for her then-husband Ryan Reynolds were placed on the Internet.

(10,575 posts)When iCloud is enabled, the back-up happens automatically whenever a photo is taken.
Winstead's claim that she had long since deleted the images from her personal electronic device adds weight to the idea that the images were taken from a cloud-based back-up service rather than directly from her device.
