Two social workers killed in a shooting at a welfare office in New Zealand today

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11317411

"At about 10am today a male entered the Work and Income office in the mid-Canterbury town and killed two people, with a third seriously injured.

A witness who was in the building at the time said a man wearing a black balaclava entered and shot two women, one of whom was interviewing him at the time.

He believed they were both WINZ staff members."

Please hug your nearest civil servant. They put up with a lot of shit.

He just murdered two people, in cold blood. And who knows how much farther he could go?

I'm glad they caught the murderer. My heart goes out to their family, friends and their colleagues.

I'm a civil servant, but in Australia, and I'm very grateful that I'm in a department that has security guards and no-one can get into the offices without swiping in. I really feel for workers in areas that deal with the public and are vulnerable to attacks...
