Why anti-gun Moms target Kroger stores for next firearms ban

Ten days into a campaign to get the nation's largest supermarket chain to ban guns, Kroger is walking a tightrope.

The gun-control group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is calling on shoppers to boycott the Cincinnati-based grocery chain unless the store supports their position of asking shoppers not to openly carry firearms.

Moms Demand Action have been successful in pushing half-a-dozen other major retailers into compliance, including Target in July.

"Moms need to shop for groceries, but we don't have to shop at stores that put our families in harm's way," said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action.

Living in the Southwest, this is going to be interesting. Kroger and their biggest entity,Smith's,are the go to Grocers of the Gun Nuts and Wingers. Knowing of some of these folks, going to be a bring the lawn chairs and the refreshments, the next chapter of Gun-nuttery-teabillie showtime is about to begin. Like Artie Johnson said,Very Interesting.

The most that the Bloomberg funded group seems to be able to manage is either a "We will obey state law regarding firearms" or a "We'd prefer you not bring your guns into the store, but won't do anything if you do" statements from the companies that they keep trying to get "bans" from.

Target spokesman Molly Snyder told the Wire that they are “requesting that people do not carry any firearms in our stores, including concealed carry. We will continue to follow local laws, however, concealed weapons are included in our position.” However, Target has no plans to actually enforce its request. The Wire asked Snyder if Target will ask a gun-toting customer to leave and she said: “Because this is a request and not a prohibition, we do not plan to communicate with our customers at this time.

I have no doubt that Kroger will come out with a similar wishy washy comment that does not commit them to any specific action.

If gun nuts want to push the issue further by disregarding the request, I'm sure stronger statements or restrictions will follow.

so history says that nothing will happen and Kroger will not be required to take a stronger stand.

I see people open carry in Krogers quite frequently with no problems from other shoppers.

How's that worked out for Starbucks?
They've pretty much said the same thing and so far, nothing.

...in certain circles. I'll repeat the same question I asked a year or so ago:

Here's how we can tell if Starbucks is sincere about what they say re guns:
Do Texas Starbucks have '30.06 signs' posted prohibiting guns?

For those unfamiliar, they would look like this:

What about it, Texas DUers? Any real change, or have the more credulous gun control advocates been pacified by the equivalent of a certificate of appreciation?
