“I presume you probably fit the category, children who were brought here,” Georgia’s GOP Governor Nathan Deal asked a Latina student and activist during an appearance at the University of Georgia in Atlanta. Deal was wrong.

“Never assume anything,” the old adage goes, “or else you’ll make an ‘ass’ out of ‘u’ or ‘me.’” Unfortunately, Republicans have a habit of assuming things, too many of which have little or no basis in fact.

CBS46 News reports the UGA College Republicans sponsored last week’s forum, where Deal came to answer questions on a variety of issues including immigration....

Of course, Deal’s campaign spokesman Brian Robinson claims Deal wasn’t even addressing Miranda, he was talking to Goodhue, an anglo-white male. Because, apparently, Deal’s so totally-not-racist he figured the white guy might very well be the one with the birth certificate problem.
