Lawmakers to Obama: Hit ISIS

Lawmakers to Obama: Hit ISIS

By Justin Sink and Amie Parnes - 09/02/14 08:20 PM EDT

Lawmakers from both parties on Tuesday exhorted President Obama to broaden the military campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) after the group released a second video that appeared to show the beheading of an American journalist.

...

“Let there be no doubt, we must go after ISIS right away because the U.S. is the only one that can put together a coalition to stop this group that’s intent on barbaric cruelty,” said Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) in a statement.

Nelson announced he would offer legislation next week that would give Obama clear authority to strike ISIS in Syria.

“This will ensure there’s no question that the president has the legal authority he needs,” Nelson said.

I guess this would effectively serve as an AUMF. If it passes what does the President do next?

3. Um. That is their job. Only Congress has the power to declare war.

That's not to say every time they do declare war that such a declaration is legit but that is their job.

Since America is broke, it only makes fiscal sense to raise tax rates on the rich to finance more war.

Luckily we have liberal shows and the internet to remind us what our bomb-first-and-ask -questions-later policy has accomplished.

Politically, it would feel great to bomb them, but in the long run, we need to get it right.

Now they want him to start a war without congressional consent.

He's got them by the balls, even if he doesn't realize it. He has something they want, namely control over the military. So he ought to tell them, drop this silly ass lawsuit, stick this impeachment talk up your ass, and we'll talk about hitting ISIS.
