Stupid Cowboys are Making me Not Hate Them, Damn Them!

The Dallas Cowboys have signed Michael Sam, who is seeking to become the first openly gay athlete to play in the NFL, to their practice squad.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett announced the signing Wednesday morning during a news conference, saying that adding Sam is "a good move for our football team right now."

With a definite need for pass-rush help, the Cowboys are bringing in Sam -- who had three sacks in the preseason for the St. Louis Rams -- for an extended look to see whether last year's SEC co-defensive player of the year at Missouri can help a defensive line that needs it.

"We're bringing a player in we wanted to see on the practice field and got nothing but good reports about him from our people and the people in St. Louis," Garrett said. "We just want to give him a chance to come in and see if he can help our football team."

1. Maybe they'll turn his job into a stealth "glass ceiling"

Maybe it's a stealth PR move to make them (and by extension, the NFL) look hip and diverse. And if Sam does play well enough to make the team, maybe they'll decide they're weak at another position and trade him -- so don't lose hope!
