(6,119 posts)if you already vote.. then join an organization that is trying move social justice forward, or donate if you can.
It will help energize organizations and those who have already been working for change.

(14,554 posts)And it's EXTREMELY hard, but I do think staying hopeful is incredibly important. Be realistic, but acknowledge that even when things have been the bleakest, we've been able to turn things around!

(10,044 posts)but since I am banned for 90 days, am borrowing your site to talk about Elizabeth Warren on David Letterman last night. She was marvelous - reason for being on was she wrote a book....
Anybody who wants to see the interview look it up on David Letterman.

I wanted to post it before she came on last night, but was not able to.
I myself have trouble viewing these film clips because I've not been able to install Adobe...hope you have better luck.
She is worth watching, and may be the answer to your OP question, " What can I do...."
Watch the clip if you can, register and vote!!
Apologies and thanks.....

(53,475 posts)... supporting Israel's genocide in Gaza is a dealbreaker for me.

(10,044 posts)She mostly spoke about the crooked banks and the sleazy things that are in the fine print on loans and mortgages, and that the "bankrupt" corporations that we bailed out in 2008 now are wealthier than they ever were.....
I wholeheartedly agree about Gaza, but my wish is to get rid of Netanyehu and Hamas. Both sides need a new government that's willing to compromise....Gaza has a decent government that's willing to deal, but their simple demands are not being met, so they are liking Hamas only because Hamas stands up to the Israelies....
As far as I am concerned, the contributions going to our politicians are responsible for all the gizmos that we give Israel, and those monies come from the record profits of corporations....cutting profits would cut contributions....and the politicians don't dare criticize anything Israel does. This might be more of a pocketbook issue than most folks believe. But nobody has the courage to do anything to cut those outrageous profits other than Warren...
But what worries me most, are you "mad" at me? Gees I hope not.

(19,537 posts)Just as I'm not sure that Warren wants to be put on the pedestal now by announcing she's running, if she really has that in the back of her head, I don't think she wants to be a visible target on the pedestal by going after Israel now, and diluting her efforts to go after the banks that she's spending a lot of time leading those efforts within the Senate and elsewhere.
She's a human being and can't be doing everything at once. She needs more people aligned with her to divide and conquer on these various issues. I think that if she were to get elected, she'd have a Secretary of State that would do a lot more to push Netanyahu in to a corner to demand that settlements be stopped, a peace process be pursued if they want to get more aid from us. I think given that this isn't her specialty area of knowledge just yet, as opposed to her understanding of economic issues that affect us, I think she's smart in trying to take the vanilla stance, as much as many of us don't care for it now, to avoid getting pigeon holed. There will be a time (I hope soon!) when speaking out against Israel (or more specifically Netanyahu's government, and not Israel in general if they can get better leadership soon!) is something that more politicians are able to do and not be punished for it, and that is the time I expect her to join us in a more demanding approach to fix the situation there. It's up for us as grass roots movements, etc. to start making AIPAC's life difficult here in the U.S., and to help shut down the money train they have that buys too many of our pols...

(2,737 posts)for me too Scuba. I've been watching & waiting before I throw my hat into the ring for anyone. I know there has been a loud cadre of support for Warren & Bernie....
But I've been down that road before with a "hope & change" rhetoric and I'm not willing to support anyone yet until I see them walk the walk.
Warren stumbled IMO.

(51,907 posts)I think it's pointless to expect a change in US imperial policy just from changing presidents. That will require a lot more bottom-up work.

(9,298 posts)These posts make it plain enough......on what grounds would the Palestinians be denied membership in the UN? Borders, maybe..
Very disappointed.
The UN had some things to say to Israel about the overwhelming disparity in deaths of Palestinians and Israelies......and shelling UN shelters. Somehow Israel doesn't seem to have been bothered too much..
Obama and Kerry are not popular in Israel. I think HC is the most popular there.

(2 posts)Wherever you are, I recommend that we use our local precincts and districts to organize each community around schools businesses and nonprofits. Recently a neighborhood got in the news for blocking the demolition of a historic black school where Barbara Jordan graduated and other prominent Black Texas Democrat leaders, including the Founder of Juneteenth.
I encourage all communities to work with local schools to teach the history of leadership and legacy. Too many citizens are taught to blame the poor and demolish these districts instead of supporting the leaders to build them up. Invest in education - financially, politically and legally to end poverty and empower minorities.

(2,737 posts)was my personal hero. My first rally I ever went to, she and Gloria Steinman were the speakers.
Later I was able to vote for, meet & admire one of the best Governors of Texas, Ann Richards.
Will probably be my avatar until the world can produce a better role model than one of the above mentioned women.
