the end of my mother's life last October, though my mom suffered a massive heart attack.

My mom was also in an induced coma and had to be brought out so neurological tests could be done and she failed those tests.

As I'm sure Mr. Rivers' daughter had to do, that of deciding to "pull the plug", I also had to decide with my family. Mom had a DNR and did not want to be kept alive by machines. We honored that wish.

Sister wanted to keep her in a long term care facility and sell the house. I kept the house until she was better.

I was able to bring her home where, after a month without dad and while in hospital for a short stay she asked for hospice.

I moved her bed into the living room and the family gathered, and then she passed, with us, in her home.

Not identical to the Rivers case, I know, but I'll bet this is the root of it.

I don't want to die in a hospital, either.

If she had been recovering she would have been in ICU for longer -- the move to a private room was a way for the family to gather around the bedside privately while they let her go.

that she was conscious, they were simply putting her in a more 'home-like'
setting for the privacy to pull the plug.
