(268,693 posts)A Virginia state senator gave Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) a new nickname on Tuesday, resurrecting a fight over McDonnell's support for legislation that would have mandated women have a transvaginal ultrasound before getting an abortion.
"n Virginia ... we refer to Gov. Bob McDonnell as 'Governor VP' -- and that's not vice president, that's vaginal probe," said state Sen. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) on a conference call organized by the Democratic National Committee.
It's not the first time Lucas has mocked McDonnell and the ultrasound bill. In a speech on the Senate floor in March, Lucas lamented that Virginia was becoming a "Punanny State" -- a reference to a "Daily Show" segment that made fun of the pending legislation.

Those two created an offshore oil governors association and signed a memorandum of understanding between Kodiak's launch facility and Virginia's. Cozy, they were.
Aside from traveling to Israel together. Of course.
I hope they all fall like dominoes.

(999 posts)All of the Governors mentioned above are bullies and they truly think that laws are for the little people. Perry and Walker are too stupid to realize the potential danger they are in. Christie is the one who knows the Power of the DOJ and that is why he has been whistling past the graveyard lately. These guys truly believe that they can do what they want and that there are not any consequences. This is what 8 years of Bush brought us. As someone said in an earlier post the Republican Governor Class of 2009-2010 has produced some real winners. This is what happens when you do not vote you get idiots like Snyder, Walker, Jindal, Perry, McDonnell, Corbett, Haley and Scott and Christie.

(5,756 posts)There are Federal mandatory sentencing guidelines the judge has to follow. McDonnell is looking at probably a minimum of 20 years. I bet the prosecutors will ask for more to make an example of him. At age sixty, he could be looking at what is, effectively, a life sentence.

(268,693 posts)The question is for how long. MAximum sentence is 20 years I hear - he'll probably get between eight and 10 - and in a minimum security prison.

A former rising star in the Republican Party, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell was red-faced and sobbing Thursday when a jury convicted him and his wife on multiple counts related to influence peddling while he was in office.
After more than a month of sometimes soul-baring testimony, the jury issued guilty verdicts on 11 counts against McDonnell, while clearing him on two others. His wife, Maureen, was convicted on nine while cleared on four.
