(68,644 posts)And willing to look past some of the "poorly chosen" words she's shared in public.
RIP Joan Rivers.

(135,425 posts)She would have kept going, too, were it not for that stupid medical accident.

(39,313 posts)Way too soon, she could have kept it going another ten years.
Unlike a comment in a thread I just trashed, she certainly wasn't suffering from dementia, the ravages of age, or anything of the sort--she was sharp as a tack. She had an issue with her voice, it's a pity she didn't do that minor surgery in a hospital instead of some crappy doctor's office.

(39,313 posts)to go to a hospital for this kind of thing. And if I don't really need it, don't do it!

(39,313 posts)but that isn't quite enough if it's cardiac arrest.
I'm guessing that the famous prefer a private office but it has drawbacks

(75,480 posts)a patient suddenly had a heart attack, stroke or other event. We had an emergency response kit but wasn't really sufficient for a lot of crisises. In Joan's case it appears that some kind of anesthesia would have been used and if someone isn't really trained for it, and a lot of doctors aren't, it could cause a heart failure or other event requiring emergency measures. Like you said though, being she was a celebrity, her doctor may have accommodated her wishes but didn't do this usually in his office. I have participated in emergency surgical procedures in a doctor's office but that was only when a patient wouldn't have made it to the hospital and even the doctor afterwards said he only did it because of the patient being in crisis.

My mom loves it. lol
I'm sure she is devastated that Joan is gone.

(38,451 posts)She did a bit about nurses and their 'squeak-squeak shoes' trying to steal husbands.

(135,823 posts)she came up when women were certainly not comedians...

(1,375 posts)But that was about it. I also had one from Rusty Warren from the 60s, which I remember more of and I think was more amusing. Both were ground breaking female comedians who are no longer with us.

(41,959 posts)Many tales of her generosity, her energy, her dedication, her fierceness, her help for other comedians, and a surprising number about how funny it was to be made fun of by her.
I don't think celebs are delicate about that. It's publicity! It's part of the game. She's part of the society. And she certainly was an equal opportunity insulter!
She made me cringe a LOT. but dammit, she was a brilliant wit in a game that is designed to deal with pain.

(4,840 posts)I could probably feel disgusted by some of the things she said. But she was a comic so my assessment of her has to be as ambiguous as her act.
