240,000 have signed a petition to reunite a dog handler with his dog 10 hrs left to help

http://www.change.org/p/jack-mccrady-the-damascus-town-council-i-would-like-them-to-accept-my-bid-to-buy-my-canine-partner-emmy?tk=fdVYSE_7YsiXgKdgBZQmps7uPnJhrdYyFCJZ7gElPk4&utm_source=petition_update&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=petition_update_email

Update in bold below.

I would like them to accept my bid to buy my canine partner Emmy.

Family and friends, Blue and Blood, I am in need of assistance. As most of you know, for the past two and a half years, I was employed with the Damascus Police Department. For the majority of that time I was a canine handler. My canine, Emmy, has stayed at my house for that duration. I have fed her, housed her, took her to the vet, and she has become part of my family.

In July 2014, I resigned from the Damascus Police Department thinking that Emmy belonged to me. However, due to a misunderstanding with my contract, the Town has informed me that she is still Town property and they will be auctioning her off to the highest bidder.

Not only that, but Mayor Jack McCrady has said publicly that they may not accept my bid even if I raise the money to bid on her. My fellow canine handlers know the strength of the bond built between a canine and it's handler, and tearing that bond apart is damaging, both to the dog, and the handler. Help me keep Emmy at home with her family, where she belongs. I need a minimum bid of 3,000 dollars to have a chance to keep Emmy. Thanks to help from my sister, Jennifer Dawn Reedy and close friend Paula Shupe, we have set up a youcaring account to accept donations. I am also starting this petition to urge the Town Council and Mayor Jack McCrady to accept the bid on my partner Emmy and not give her to someone else. Please donate to my cause if you can. Emmy and I appreciate your support.

This petition is to urge the council to accept my bid on my partner, Emmy, to prevent losing a member of my family. I would gladly die for her, and she would do the same for me. Sign this petition, post this, share this, talk about this and help spread the word. I know you all will because I have honorable friends who do the right thing. Thank you in advance for your support, and God bless you. Justin Miller

Thanks everyone for all your support, I can hardly believe I have 240,000 supporters. I find out the verdict tomorrow night at 6:00 PM on whether or not I get to keep Emmy. I was able to speak with a member of the Town Council and she stated that in her opinion the council could not take this petition into account unless someone from Damascus had signed it. If anyone from Damascus has signed this "which i'm sure they have" please speak up. Leave a small letter at Town hall tomorrow letting them know you agree with me keeping Emmy. Thanks everyone for the support and if anyone decides to come to the meeting please be respectful, anyone acting in a rude manor will only hurt my chances of getting Emmy.

Emmy needs to stay with her family not be auctioned off to some stranger. I hope he is successful.

Emmy is a trained police dog. No insult to the man who loves her, but she is a VALUABLE asset anywhere she goes, and the town probably spent a great deal of money on getting her that way. I am sure her handler worked with her while that was happening, too, but he was receiving a salary / not donating his time, so his salary is also part of the expense of training her.

Unless she is retiring to become a family pet, she needs to continue doing her job. In a perfect world (assuming her handler is staying in law enforcement), his "next job" would pay to bring her along with him.

I feel bad for everyone involved -- I know he will miss her, but she is more than "FAMILY" -- she is a very valuable professional working dog, and that makes her "more" than just a family pet.

I hope everyone can get it worked out, but I could not sign in support of him, when I felt the issues of respecting a professional working dog versus treating her like a family pet were in play.

(But this is a kick, so those who disagree with me can see and go sign, if they want! )

Life is not a "thing" to be treated like an object of monetary value

working police dog are not available; at a certain level, this dog and its Very Expensive training are just as much of an asset to that town as the buildings and vehicles.

In fact, some of us might argue the dog is actually worth more than some of the people who probably work there, but to be fair, I am probably prejudiced on behalf of the dog.

Trained working police dogs are a valuable asset; they are NOT family pets.

And I assure you my paycheck (which I get in return for spending large quantities of my life providing services for a company that I would not otherwise provide except in return for a paycheck) is one way my "life" is measured in terms of monetary value.

The best solution I can see (already stated above) would be for his "next employer" (assuming he is staying in law enforcement) to compensate the town appropriately so they can come together. And if his next employer won't come up with the scratch, he needs to withdraw his resignation and look for a town that can appreciate the effort involved and compensate all entities accordingly.

(Please note that I love your attitude, even tho I disagree with it! And this reply is another KICK to this thread!)
