Among the reasons why Democrats took back Congress in 2006 was because of all sorts of Republican scandals, from Mark Foley's lewd emails to a teenaged Congressional page, the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal (with two sitting Republican congressmen implicated), the ongoing investigation of Tom DeLay (DeLay was also doing bad stuff with Abramoff), and then all sorts of negative events around GW Bush's White House including the trial of Scooter Libby.
8 years later, look at the current pic of the moment. We've got a Republican governor (Robert McDonnell-VA) who once was a viable presidential candidate found guilty of corruption. And three other governors (Chris Christie-NJ, Rick Perry-TX, and Scott Walker-WI - also considered star candidates) actively under investigation with Perry already being indicted. Several other right wing governors (Tom Corbett-PA, Rick Snyder-MI, Rick Scott-FL, Sam Brownback-KS) are in danger of losing their seats. Texas could have a Democrat (Wendy Davis) as governor for the first time since the '90s. Even the SENATE MAJORITY LEADER Mitch McConnell could be heading out of Congress by January.
So why, WHY is there the realistic possibility that BOTH bodies of Congress could be Republican majority next year, with all this going on?
