Ferguson police chief lied about requests for cigar tape

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/05/ferguson-chief-lied-about-michael-brown-tape_n_5773420.html

Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson lied when he said he had received "many" specific requests for the videotape that allegedly shows Michael Brown robbing a convenience store, according to a new report.

"All I did -- what I did was -- was release the videotape to you, because I had to," Jackson told reporters on Aug. 15 when asked why he released the robbery footage. "I’d been sitting on it, but I -- too many people put in a [Freedom of Information Act] request for that thing, and I had to release that tape to you."

Writing for The Blot, Matthew Keys reports that the police department did not receive any specific requests for the videotape.

"A review of open records requests sent to the Ferguson Police Department found that no news organization, reporter or individual specifically sought the release of the surveillance tape before police distributed it on Aug. 15," Keys writes.

He should be indicted for inciting to riot, wish the family of the woman shot after he did this could sue city and him and take everything he has.

conference, you pretty much know the dude is lying. I saw the press reaction at the time he said that, they were shocked and befuddled--and probably thinking, who the hell scooped me?

The thing that didn't ring at all true about his statement though is how quickly the process happened. FOIA requests just don't happen that fast.

so they had to do something to change the story

the entire police dept or the white part of it are corrupt, all of them.

the entire DA office of the county is corrupt ...could we solve this racism problem if we called it corruption?

If news reports are correct that the Justice Department requested that the video NOT be released, perhaps this is part of the expanded investigation facing Ferguson.

Certainly the timing, at a press conference to release the shooter's name, let alone the actual release of the tape itself, should be under investigation.

I always suspected some news organization(s) would be able to FOIA the alleged FOIA requests. Not surprising at all that none exist.

Not only is it not even specified as alleged, no robbery apparently took place! Of course a tape of a non-existent robbery does sounds rather boring.

There is something systemically wrong with the Ferguson PD. When the team's not playing well, it's the manager who gets fired. The Ferguson PD looks like the Keystone Kops with tanks and armored personnel carriers.

It's nice that someone pointed out the lie, really appreciate it. While it doesn't always happen, it happens often enough that some of us have noticed the tops of small and big "pyramids" often are filled with folks who either lie on occasion or routinely.

emails, or CLAIM that they'd requested the tape, just to cover Chief Dingleberrie's ass.

I'm sure most people already suspected there were no 'requests' to see a tape that nobody even knew existed; but it's nice to get proof of it.

not just about the murder case, but also in the case against the whole department.

I don't know what the results would be, because the Feds have only limited power.

Is there a rule or law to publish the end of these investigations? We ought to get that info.
