On Meet The Press, President Obama called out Republicans in Congress for not having common sense. The president pointed out that the lack of common sense has led Republicans to obstruct everything.
Transcript:
CHUCK TODD: Youre overtly pointing at me.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: That that this was going to be a good year for Senate Republicans, because the seats that were up were in states that were tilting or significantly with with significant Republican majorities. If we if democrats hold the Senate, I think that should get Republicans to once again
CHUCK TODD: You think that sends a national message?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I think what it does is is to to send a message to Republicans that people want to get stuff done. Their their strategy of just obstructing and saying no to every piece of legislation that might help middle class families, that might create ladders of opportunity, that that is an agenda that the American people reject.
And that then gives us room, hopefully, to find some compromises. Ive Ive said this before, Chuck. You know, if you asked me back in August what I want for my birthday, Id say, Give me a loyal opposition that has some common sense and is willing to work on some basic issues that didnt used to be partisan issues.
It didnt use to be that building roads, bridges, improving our airports, improving our water systems, reducing traffic, those didnt used to be partisan issues. They have become partisan issues, because youve got a small portion of the Republican party that is fixated simply on dismantling government or making sure that we dont get anything done around here. And thats why elections matter.
If that approach is rejected, then you possibly have two years where we can get a whole bunch of stuff done. And the good news is that despite all that obstruction, Americas made progress. Youve heard me speak on the stump about this, Chuck. The fact of the matter is that on almost every economic index that you can think of, Americas better off now than we were five years ago.
The president hit the nail on the head. The Republican opposition in Congress is so ideological that they lack common sense. Rebuilding and repairing infrastructure is common sense. Republicans claim that they want to create jobs, but companies and businesses arent going to locate in areas, or countries, with poor infrastructure.

(25,247 posts)no common sense either. Right now the MSM is saying that the Repubs will take the Senate and maintain the House.
I keep saying this - the Repubs are on the wrong side of every issue - how can that be?

(16,286 posts)to vote for a republican who's job it is to destroy his or her job.
When everything is this upside down, a correction is needed.
It can come in many forms, hopefully a peaceful form, likely going to be a depression and one where the 99% are so desperate all existing property and resource ownership is wiped out etc.
Allowing a handful of people to own everything because that is the set of rules we are used to following, is absurd.
The rules have to change.

(9,126 posts)But I think most undecideds (non-partisans, independents, whatever you want to call them) vote for one side then the other just because they don't know who to vote for and they're fed up. Republicans are shiftless assholes, but they have been very successful in making Democrats--with the Senate and the WH for the last 6 years and control of the Senate and the House before that--look extremely weak and unable to lead.
Plenty of articles have been posted here just this last week that the recovery has passed by most Americans. So while things may be going in the right direction from the Bush apocalypse in the big picture, most people are struggling and want help. And what they see is that Democrats can't get anything done because the minority party in the House blocks everything so now we're at a deadlock. And while the games in the halls of power might be exciting, they aren't putting food on the table, a roof over their heads, and their children in excellent, safe schools. People will vote for real solutions, not just promises.
And the worst part is when you are unemployed, underemployed, paid half of what you were paid before, or your job has been outsourced and your home has been foreclosed upon and your child is going to a school with crumbling ceilings and no air conditioning but plenty of metal detectors, and the health insurance you pay too much for has a deductible so high you can't use it, and you're still paying off your school loans until the day you die and no one is doing a goddamn thing about it...the worst part is some partisan loyalist screaming in your face that you're not patient enough or you just want a pony or poutrage or you're a racist. Because closing one's eyes and clapping harder will make it all go away.
The answer? I don't know. I see that large cities are moving to pass higher minimum wage and perhaps the federal government will follow. I see great things happening in blue states so perhaps people will catch on that liberal policies work and vote out their Koch cronies. I see a new breed of Democrat coming up who is a plain-spoken populist fighter like Warren, Grimes, and Davis and hope that those politicians push out the entrenched, corporate, bourgeois Democrats who are merely Republican enablers. These are all reasons to vote for Democrats because they are real and help the 99%. Excuses don't get people to the polls.
