NBC Meet The Press Transcript Conveniently Edited

NBC Meet The Press Transcript Conveniently Edited
by illinifan17

The earlier excellent diary by TeamSarah4Choice pointed out Chuck Todd's blatant lie to the face of President Obama, and demonstrated that he had mentioned Syria four times before Todd said

You've not said the word, "Syria," so far in our conversation.

The NBC New website now has a transcript of the interview up, and it is curious, to say the least.

The transcript is far from complete, but nowhere does is say it is edited, abridged, or just highlights. And three of the four references to Syria are gone. Only the earliest one, furthest from Todd's false claim, remains. Here is the portion that jumps over the refernce to Syria 12 seconds before Todd's claim.

You don't believe these people--

PRES. OBAMA:

Not yet. But they-- they can evolve. And I was very specific at that time. What I said was, not every regional terrorist organization is automatically a threat to us that would call for a major offensive. Our goal should not be to think that we can occupy every country where there's a terrorist organization.

CHUCK TODD:

You've not said the word, "Syria," so far in our conversation. Obviously, if you're going to defeat ISIS, you have used very much stronger language. It's gone through the week during your trip to Wales. You have got to go to Syria in some form or another.

The unedited video and transcript of it clearly show what both Obama and Todd said and when they said it.

NBC edited out (deliberately?) of the original video every place Obama said 'Syria' prior to Todd's making his embarassing statement. Todd's statement in the edited version then appears to be correct.

Unfortunately Obama doesn't call him on it and in fact he says "You're correct" in reply to the just prior series of questions/statements Todd made in which the Syria statement was first.

If a taped interview is going to be edited for showing, the president should be allowed to approve the edit. I know the Supreme Court has said networks may lie, but I'd think the president would insist on such a contract clause prior to an interview.

Hopefully Obama declines all future interview requests from Chuck Todd.

If you think this network has any scruples after seeing their conveniently edited transcript, think again.

Their editing and production staff should answer to why a black-lined script was posted when all the controversy surrounding the conveniently abridged interview arose -- the full transcript is what shoiuld be considered the NEWS as a real NEWS organization would do, perhaps with what was aired either italicized or underlined. This is like having a court reporter conveniently 'lose' a few paragraphs when they find it convenient to the case of one party or another. The editing for the show also gave a false impression of the interview context and Todd is 100% answerable for that. As if he even knows what an 'answer' is.... the morning buffoon.
