Putin's actions in Ukraine spark massive brain-drain in Russia

Two articles from June in english. The only recent one I found was in german.

http://www.vocativ.com/world/russia/russias-new-brain-drain/
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/25/russia-new-wave-emigration-annexation-crimea

About 1 in 4 Russians with a higher education have plans to emigrate from Russia to seek a new home with better and fairer politics.

Scientists, entrepreneurs, writers, artists... Who needs them anyway?

Quote:
"Vitaly Milonov, a pro-Putin lawmaker who wrote Russia’s controversial “gay propaganda” law, seems to agree. “Russia won’t lose anything if the entire so-called creative class leaves,” he says. “What’s the creative class anyway? For me, a woman who gets up at 5 a.m. to milk a cow is creative because she produces something. Not some guy with a stupid haircut who sits in a cafe all day long writing in his blog.”"

To recap: Russia is losing a good part of its thinkers. And it's happy to get rid of those useless traitors. Combine that with the high mortality-rate in Russia.

What does Putin think how Russia will be able to compete in the future with financial mega-powers like China, the EU and the US?
With what does he want to build his new empire? Natural gas and motorized infantry?
How is that supposed to competitive a few decades form now with the emerging green technologies, with the revolutions in electronics and medicine currently under way, with the robotification of militaries, with exoskeletons and stealth-planes, with lasers, sonic guns and rail-guns?
How will Russia be able to compete with the economic power of China in 20 years?
How will Russia be able to compete with the EU seducing foreigners with a high standard of living in 20 years?
How will Russia be able to compete with the military power of the US in 20 years?

There will be a moment of awakening for the russian nationalists in the upcoming decades. They will find out exactly the same what the islamic fundamentalists have found out: That nobody shares your opinion that your glorious past entitles you to something.

"“Russia won’t lose anything if the entire so-called creative class leaves,” he says. “What’s the creative class anyway?"

Now there's a guy to look at for leadership in the 21st century.
