A bored child did his best to upstage his parents at the White House by diving onto a couch in the Oval Office.
The smartly dressed youngster was photographed acting up as his mother and father met with Barack Obama in June.
Mr Obama is seen in the snap chatting with the departing Secret Service agent and his wife, apparently unaware of the boys antics.

(22,651 posts)Wonder if the President and Mrs. Obama want to have another child in their family? Think they will adopt someday?

(55,894 posts)Now that I got that out of my cranky "get off my lawn" system
. the kid might have just flopped over the arm of the couch to sit and kick his feet. Which would be pretty normal for any kid in the universe.
Still it shouldn't be beyond the means of a 7 year old to sit or stand quietly for 10 minutes while Mom & Dad meet POTUS. Or maybe don't bring him if he can't.

(3,212 posts)That meet and greet lasted a maximum of ten minutes. Probably less. Ninety-nine percent of children can behave for that length of time, and if you think your child will have problems behaving, don't bring him or give him something to keep him occupied.
Of course, it could also be a matter of having waited an already long time to meet the president, but that's why you go prepared with things to occupy the child. It would have make things much more difficult, though.

(3,212 posts)Wow.
I had much higher expectations for my children. I'm not suggesting they always met them, since they didn't, but I certainly tried.

(18,115 posts)I would categorize misbehaving as kicking the President, carving their name in the table, slashing a painting, breaking a vase, etc.
Flopping on a couch? Not even close.

(1 post)to see that a child can feel comfortable in the White House. I might be a bit embarrassed if I were the parents, but the child is not interrupting the adult conversation.
