(135,425 posts)It reinvigorated the career of Farrah Fawcett, who had been viewed as a difficult lightweight for "demanding too much money" for her Charlie's Angels role. It was a serious, heavy part and it highlighted the issue of domestic violence in a way that hadn't been seen before. It also introduced to the wider world a new defense strategy to the court system. It was based on a true story.

(2,381 posts)The defense before then was almost universally "duty to withdraw." If there was a way you could get away, you had to at least try before you could claim self-defense as a defense to a criminal charge. This case and others like it led to a new term: "battered woman syndrome."
