More than 100 teens swarm Memphis plaza, 'knocking out' shoppers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) – THV11's CBS affiliate WREG reported that three people are now recovering after a mob of teenagers ran through a busy shopping plaza, seemingly picking out customers and Kroger employees at random to attack.

A video of the incident has been shared with local news stations in the area and is quickly going viral. It shows a young adult lying still on the ground as others repeatedly kick him and stomp his head. Other are seen being chased or knocked to the ground.

WREG said a witness told the cameras that the three people injured were attacked indiscriminately--two victims were African American, and one victim was Caucasian.

2. The report is incorrect

Two of the victims were Caucasian (the man in the car who ran into the store) and the grocery store worker who was knocked down (out?) and pelted with heavy pumpkins. The third injury came to another grocery store worker who is African American.

At least 11 have been arrested to this point. The one in the green shirt who featured most prominently in the beating has been arrested. He is 14, has not attended school this year, and had no family members at his first court date.

A grandma turned in her grandson and made the statement that her son, his father, should be more involved in his life.

5. The boy being beaten

is my son's best friend, We have been neighbors since they were babies.
He is home and doing well. The boy that ran to help him and got beat up was black.
This sucks. I have read some of the worst bigoted and vitriolic comments on boards from our newspaper to you tube.
It is so disheartening...

And it just escalated from there. It was just crazy! They have 11 people in custody now and are charging them with felony assault among other things.

when they got close enough for her to see the beating. You can hear her yelling "somebody call someone" and "get security"
