Multimillionaire leaves 20 cent tip on $61.56 check (0.3%)

You may have already heard that Eagles RB LeSean McCoy stiffed a server at Philly eatery PYT — home of stunt foods like the Fried Chicken & Beer Burger, the Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger, and the Lasagna-Bun Burger — by leaving only $.20 on a $61.56 bill.

(The owner) then recounts his side of the story, in which McCoy and three friends visited PYT on Monday and ended up sitting in a booth next to the owner and other managers. “They were given excellent service. Impeccable service,” writes the owner. “If anything, our server was a little nervous as was our food runner, because they are big, big fans.”

However, he claims that McCoy and his friends quickly became “verbally abusive” to the staff, including derogatory comments about females.

The owner also says that after the group had left, he noticed the waiter was staring at the receipt left behind. “I took the receipt out of his hand and I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so callous,” he writes. “Mr. McCoy had left a .03% tip for our staff… Twenty cents that our server has to split with the food runner and the bartender. Two dimes from an insulting multimillionaire.”

and the man would leave $50 on a $22 tip habitually, and he was in nearly every day. Several times he left $100. My servers loved him. He would also bring in other coaches and they were all nice as all get-out. His wife and daughter were really sweet too.

Thankfully, they don't all suck.

It's like this: A typical tip is 15%, aka .15 x the bill. To call that .15% would be wrong by two decimal places.

In this event, if you divide the $.20 tip by the check you get about .003 on your calculator.

Move the decimal over two places or multiply by 100 to get the percent figure.

.20/61.56 = .0032488; converted to percent = 0.32488%

of 20%, and often closer to 25%. On cheap tabs (like $10 or less), I'll always leave $3 or $4, as I know how hard they have to work, and certainly don't generate lots of tip income with those tiny tabs.

on my college spring break with a close friend from an enjoyable experience into one of having been poor shamed. Yes, I was poorer than his usual clientele and yes, I was not as sophisticated either, but I was a paying customer and should have been treated like all the rest of the paying customers. Instead I was treated as a poor, country bumpkin.

I want to know why the manager didn't call the guy out when he started making derogatory comments about females. He obviously noted the comments and could have asked the man to not make those kind of statements in the restaurant.
